THIS WEEK’S FISHING! (in brief)
Zander anglers are enjoying multiple catches in the mild weather that has marked the first month of the season.
Lake regular David Pocock has carried on where he left off last season, landing 14 zeds to 7 lb during a visit this week.
The Old Lake bream fishing has been back on track this week, after bright weather and clear water made the fishing a little more difficult.
It took 78 lb to win the Hackbridge AS match, and 50 lb was only enough to finish fourth.
Good numbers of Old Lake carp are being caught, one angler landing nine in a session, all of them commons, to 18 lb.
Bonds Lake is also still producing plenty of carp, eight fish to 11 lb on Robin Red pellets being one of the reported catches.
And pictures have been sent in of new fishery record carp Nemo at a heaviest ever weight of 46 lb 4 oz, captor Rob Winters’ sunny midweek first visit being made unforgettable when he captured Bury Hill’s biggest fish.
After a very warm, calm and sunny weekend, temperatures look set to return to closer to normal for the time of year this week, with an average high of 12 degrees C and a mixture of cloud and sunshine, but with little in the way of rain expected. Wednesday is the Full Moon, October’s being the Hunter’s Moon, bringing high pressure, lightish winds, mild days but chilly nights, especially towards the end of the week and into the weekend. Monday looks likely to have a high of 12 degrees, a bit of a drop after Sunday’s 17, but with lots of sunshine still, the sunniest day of the week, but with a cool start and finish, 7 overnight from Sunday and then 6 going into Tuesday. Tuesday is expected to be cloudy but a degree warmer, at 13, with 10 overnight into a cloudy Wednesday and 14, but dropping to 7 overnight into an even cloudier Thursday and just 10 by day, with 6 overnight into a Friday of 10 but with a bit more sunshine. But then the frosts look set to return, with 3 on Friday night into Saturday after the sunshine and just 8 by day on Saturday, 2 overnight into Sunday, then 8 again and 2 overnight into Monday, as a run of proper frosts takes over. Winds look set to be no more than moderate north-westerlies, becoming lighter as the week goes on, but then strengthening into the weekend.

OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING

Zander fishing is attracting good numbers of anglers, drawn by the chance of lots of takes, and the possibility of a specimen.
Many visitors are taking the opportunity to land their first one, and the more experienced anglers are honing their techniques to enjoy lots of action and multiple catches.
David Pocock, from Kingston, specialises in catching them, having landed double-figure fish from the lake, and ending last season with well over 100 fish to his name in six months.
His most recent visit produced 14 fish to 7 lb from peg 38, on sardine sections and small leger bombs.
Small pieces of roach, sardine, sprat, lamprey and smelt have also done well, the most important part being a light, resistance-free, single-hook rig and sensitive bite indication, some anglers resorting to floats or quivertips.
Also feeding well are the lake’s bream, the Hackbridge AS match being won with 78 lb of fish to 5 lb for John Swann, winner of last week’s Matchfishing-scene.co.uk contest, this time fishing feeder at peg 34.
Runner-up was Mark Hathway with 60 lb from peg 14, ahead of John Everiss with 58 lb from peg 38, and Dave Fyfield with 50 lb on pole, from peg 42.
Among the best carp catches reported was nine fish to 18 lb for new Specimen Carp Club member Cliff Creed, from Epsom, from peg 2.
Cliff fished a 48-hour session for 129 lb of carp, all nine of them commons, using Sticky Baits The Krill boilies.
Dan Fergusson was back for more action, this time landing two commons from peg 2, the biggest a new personal best of 20 lb 5 oz, on 18 mm NashBait Instant Action pop-ups.
And Connor Lucas caught the best looking fish, in the form of a distinctive, fully scaled mirror of 20 lb 9 oz, from peg 9 on a Mainline Pineapple & Banana boilie.

TEMPLE LAKE – CARP

Pictures have been sent in of last week’s new fishery record, Nemo at 46 lb 4 oz, landed by Rob Winters, from Worthing, at around midday.
Rob was fishing peg 9 on a very warm and sunny Wednesday, on a day session, beating the record set by Chris Spencer, who had the famous fish at 44 lb 11 oz in early May, from peg 1.

BONDS LAKE

Bonds has been in great form, as indicated by how popular it has been, often the first lake to fill up on warm weekend days.
One of the great attractions is how a variety of tactics work, meaning visitors can fish in a way that they enjoy and still catch plenty of fish.
Pole or feeder, straight lead or waggler, or pellet waggler up in the water with bait fired over the top all work well, and the fish keep on the move, giving lots of anglers a slice of the action.

Jason Nightingale, from Worcester Park, had eight carp to 11 lb from peg 7, on straight bomb and 8 mm Dynamite Robin Red pellets, loosefed and on the hook.

MILTON LAKE

Milton Lake is the place to head for if you want tench, bream, crucians and roach, along with a chance of a bonus carp, either on waggler with a running line, or pole close in or up against the lily pads, where fish can often be lined up with a little-and-often loosefeeding approach using small baits.
