THIS WEEK’S FISHING! (in brief)
The popularity of fishing at Bury Hill shows no sign of waning, and the fish are joining in, providing lots of action across all four lakes, to specimen size.
What could be Temple Lake’s biggest common carp was banked over the weekend, at 36 lb 7 oz, to Darren Eastwood, his first Temple fish.
The Old Lake has been fishing well, up to 30 carp being landed per angler, a catch that included 11 ‘twenties’ for Nick Ridge, on peg 2.
Bream anglers have also found the fish in a feeding mood, Cy Chandler landing 40 from peg 15 on feeder and red maggots and wafters.
Bonds Lake provided Zoltan Toth and his daughter with 27 carp during a “fantastic weekend”, while Milton Lake has been fishing well for crucians and tench, along with occasional big roach, peg 22 producing crucians to 2 lb 3 oz.
Part of the enjoyment for visiting anglers has been the fine weather, with mid-20s temperatures for several days running.
And the sunshine looks set to continue, with high pressure in charge, providing a week of warm, dry weather with an average value of 21 degrees C and frost free at night.
After Monday’s high of 24, and overnight of 13, there’s more of the same expected for Tuesday, with sunshine all day and 24 again, with 13 overnight into a slightly cloudier Wednesday of 23, with 10 overnight into a slightly cooler feel on Thursday of 20, but back to the unbroken blue skies again with 10 overnight into Friday, which is a repeat of Thursday, at 20 and 10, into Saturday of unbroken sunshine again and 22, with 11 overnight into Sunday with a bit more cloud and 21 with 11 into Monday week and climbing each day from then on. Winds should change from Monday’s south-westerlies to lightish north-westerlies on Tuesday, becoming north-easterlies on Wednesday, strengthening a bit and becoming more easterly on Thursday, a bit stronger again reaching moderate on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with a bit of northerly mixed in, but staying from the east. So, some very pleasant sunshine and warm days with mild nights and little chance of rain.

The successful return to fishing continued this week with more great catches as anglers enjoyed lots of action with carp and bream in the spring sunshine.
Following on from Richard Urquhart’s 28 carp to 21 lb 5 oz from peg 75 in four days after reopening, Nick Ridge landed 30 carp in three days, including 11 of over 20 lb.
Nick, from East Grinstead, fished peg 2 with Sticky Baits and Mainline Cell boilies, catching best with 12 mm wafters.
And among the bream catches, Cy Chandler’s 40 fish to 5 lb, along with a tench and 15 lb carp, stands out.
East London angler Cy was fishing peg 15 on Friday with cage feeder and Method feeder and using 8 mm wafters or double dead red maggot on the hook.
TV angling star James Buckley was also in action, landing tench to 5 lb 6 oz and a 25 lb common carp.
Darren Eastwood won’t forget his first fish from Temple, because the 36 lb 7 oz carp may be the biggest common in the lake.
Darren was hoping to beat his UK PB of 29 lb 4 oz that had stood for six years when the fish, identified as The Box Common, picked up his Sticky Baits Manilla offering.
As Darren said: “What a corker!”
The biggest recent common was at the end of February, a 34 lb 2 oz fish by Matt White, and the only bigger one recorded than the latest was a 36 lb 8 oz to Luke Luff in October 2018.
Simon Longhurst had a 35 lb 2 oz in 2013, Chris Bailey a 36 lb in 2016, Mark Constable a 35 lb 9 oz in September 2018, Barry Mogg a 35 lb 9 oz last May, and James Whitmore The Silver Common at 35 lb last April.
Also in action were Jason VanArkadie with a 27 lb common on Saturday week, and Mick Warren with a 22 lb 8 oz common from peg 5 on Tuesday, the final morning of a two-day session, on a Mainline Cell snowman over a few freebies tight to the island reeds.

PLEASE NOTE: LEAD CORE IS BANNED ON BOTH TEMPLE AND THE OLD LAKE. PLEASE SEE KEN IN THE SHOP FOR FURTHER DETAILS.
Bonds is still the first choice lake for many anglers, because of its reliability for producing multiple carp runs.
Zoltan Toth, from New Malden, has had success there before, and this time he brought his daughter and shared a 27-carp catch that he described as “a fantastic weekend.”
Straight lead is often the best way to maximise catches, using 8 or 10 mm boilies or wafters while pinging 8 mm pellets over the top, and trying a pellet waggler later in the day.
Good numbers of tench and crucians being caught, including fish to 2 lb 3 oz from peg 22, on soft pellets, along with tench to 6 lb.
