THIS WEEK’S FISHING! (in brief)
The upturn in the temperature has brought a welcome lift to fishing at Bury Hill, offering warm sunshine and double-figure values, along with more activity from the fish.
A few more carp anglers are venturing out, and a trio of them shared a six-carp catch this week, the biggest fish 18 lb 10 oz, on the Front Bank pegs closest to the car park.
One of the carpers had 16 bream on boilies, and the midweek match was won with 30 lb of bream, from the middle of the Front Bank, showing that the fish are definitely taking an interest.
Bonds Lake is also a good bet for action, either for the carp or the roach and perch on waggler or pole.
As the days get longer and the current mild spell warms the water, the fish are becoming more interested in feeding, and with as much as 14 degrees C recorded over the weekend just gone, the fishing is becoming an increasingly attractive proposition.
There should be more calm and sunny weather this week, with pleasant temperatures that should reach double figures every day, dipping slightly for the first half of the week to 10 degrees C, but increasing gradually after Tuesday’s Full Moon until they reach 13 in the warm sunshine on Friday and Saturday. Monday looks likely to be a bit more overcast than last weekend, hence the drop from 14 to 10, though with a mild night of 8 from Sunday into Monday, then falling to 4 overnight from Monday into Tuesday, which should be a bit more sunny and 10, with 6 overnight into a cloudy Wednesday, which should also have a high of 10. Then the gradual increase begins, with 7 overnight into Thursday, which should make 11, though with a dip to 6 overnight into a very sunny Friday and 13, down to 5 overnight into another very sunny day on Saturday and 12, with 4 into Sunday of 13 again, increasing to 15 and sunny again on Monday and Tuesday week. Winds should start as lightish southerlies, becoming south-westerly and a little stronger on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, becoming a little lighter on Thursday but still from the south west, lighter again and southerly on Friday and south-easterly and lighter on Saturday, and lighter again on Sunday and Monday. So, a steadily improving picture of pleasant weather to welcome anglers back who have been waiting for temperatures to rise before venturing out.

OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING

Brothers Tony and Graham Vary and fishing pal Graham Harris, from Uxbridge, shared a catch of six carp and numerous bream while fishing overnighters on the Front Bank, on pegs closest to the car park.
Tony had commons of 18 lb 10 oz and 16 lb, and mirrors of 16 lb 10 oz and 16 lb 4 oz, while Graham had a 16 lb mirror, and Graham Harris landed a 16 lb carp and 16 bream.
All of the fish fell to Sticky Baits Manilla boilies in snowman presentations over crushed hemp, cast three quarters of the way across in open water.
On the match side of things, Mark Hathway’s midweeker on the Front Bank was won by John Swann, who had 30 lb of bream on feeder at peg 13.
Runner-up was Mark Smith, with 25 lb 8 oz from peg 31, ahead of Mark Hathway on peg 4 with 24 lb, Malcolm Heaver with 22 lb 7 oz from peg 32, and Tony Morris with 22 lb from peg 11.

TEMPLE LAKE – CARP

Hopefully the end of the ice and snow, and the arrival of a second week of milder weather, with double-figure values once again, will stir the fish into feeding, especially as the days are now getting noticeably longer and the sun has some warmth in it.

BONDS LAKE

The carp are showing an interest in offerings now that temperatures are on the rise, and there are still roach and perch being caught on pole or waggler tactics, along with a few accidental carp.

MILTON LAKE

Milton Lake is the place to head for if you want tench, bream, crucians and specimen roach, along with a chance of a bonus carp, either on waggler with a running line, or pole close in or up against the lily pads, where fish can often be lined up with a little-and-often loosefeeding approach using small baits, especially now that the weather has become milder.
