THIS WEEK’S FISHING! (in brief)
There’s some great sport to be had for bream anglers on the Old Lake at present, with huge catches in match and pleasure sessions.
Peter Sharp had 21 fish to 7 lb, Anna Preston also landed 21 during an introduction to Bury Hill by Specimen Carp Club member Paul Jeffery, and it took 50 lb to win the Carshalton & District AS match with a catch of carp, bream and tench.
Temple Lake produced another ‘thirty’, following on from the double capture of Nemo at 43 lb, and Milton Lake is fishing well for tench and crucians, up to 14 tench to 5 lb and 13 crucians being landed per angler.
There are still numbers of carp to be caught from the Old Lake, despite an interest in spawning among the lake’s heaviest fish.
Up to nine carp have been reported, the middle part of the day less productive now than the mornings, evenings and nights.
It looks like being a pleasant mix of sunshine, cloud and a couple days of showers this week, as the easterlies give way to more fishy south-westerly winds from midweek, with an average daily high of around 18 degrees C, so just a little cooler than the week before. Monday looks set to be the warmest and sunniest day, with a top temperature of 21, before the high-pressure front of the past few days begins to fade away. Tuesday is likely to be the coolest day, at 17 degrees, with overcast conditions expected, followed by a bit brighter Wednesday of 19, and a showery Thursday of 18, before a brighter Friday and 18, with a few showers on Saturday but also some sunshine and 18, and a drier Sunday, ahead of a wetter week to come. Overnight values should stay in double figures, and winds are expected to start as moderate north-easterlies, becoming north-westerlies and then south-westerlies on Wednesday and strengthening slightly, staying that way into the weekend.

• The predator fishing season begins on October 1 and finishes on March 14.

• Anyone who fancies being part of the night syndicate of anglers who are allowed to fish Temple and the Old Lake after dark for a £50 joining fee will be interested to hear that there are places available. To apply, get in touch with the office on 01306 883621.

• Anglers are reminded that fishing on Temple and night fishing on the Old Lake is available exclusively to members of the Bury Hill Specimen Carp Club. Membership cards must be carried at all times when on the fishery, and be available to bailiffs when they carry out checks prior to the evening lock-up.

OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING

The Old Lake’s bream are making the most of this spell of warm weather, and the fact that some of the carp are distracted by spawning, to get to anglers’ baits first.
Peter Sharp, from Crawley, landed 21 bream from peg 1, the biggest an impressive 7 lb, all on cage feeder and pellets, corn and casters.
Anna Preston, from Walton, was given an enjoyable introduction to fishing at Bury Hill by Specimen Carp Club member Paul Jeffery (see photos below).
She caught 21 bream to 4 lb, skimmers, roach and rudd from peg 11, fishing a quivertip rod and a maggot feeder with red maggots just a couple of rod lengths out to the right.
Anna hadn’t fished for a few years, but had “a fantastic day” in the “beautiful surroundings”.

And the Carshalton & District AS match from pegs 1 to 34 was won by Gary Sharpless with 50 lb 10 oz, made up of five bream, three carp and a tench on pole and 6-8 mm soft hookers over loosefed micro pellets, at peg 1.
Runner-up was Gary’s son, Mick, on peg 32 with 30 lb of bream and a few tench and skimmers on pole with corn and luncheon meat.
A few carp are still being caught. Jamie and Michael Oliver shared a catch of nine carp to 15 lb from pegs 14 and 15, on Mainline Essential Cell double 15 mm baits over scattered free offerings, half way to the island.
Bill Stroud, from Redhill, had carp of 21 lb 10 oz and 16 lb from peg 38, fishing close to the island with Carp Company Icelandic Red boilies and fluoro pop-ups.
Adrian Wood fished in the bay, at peg 50, and had five on an overnighter, the biggest a 17 lb mirror, all on 15 mm single Mainline Cell wafters over a few free offerings, catching best in the dark.
And Steve Snelling and a friend shared a catch of two mirror carp to 18 lb and eight tench to 5 lb, along with countless bream, fishing the Jungle from a boat.

TEMPLE LAKE – CARP

Another ‘thirty’ was added to the tally this week, Adam Rogers landing a 32 lb common carp, and also a 21 lb mirror, on Mainline’s new The Link boilies.
Adam was fishing a single red wafter for the biggest fish, over a few freebies boosted with a glug of the same flavour, and a single Cell wafter for the ‘twenty’.
Steve Lane, from Dartford, had a 29 lb common, which was a PB, from peg 9, on a 14 mm A2 Baits Creamy Toffee pop-up.
And Stephen Hayes landed a 21 lb 3 oz common (see photo below) from peg 11, casting a Mainline Chocolate Orange Fizz pop-up coated in Outrageous Orange Goo, to the point of the island, to notch up his fourth fish in three sessions.

Ray Harding has sent in pictures of his 31 lb 6 oz mirror and the Long Common at 27 lb, reported three weeks ago, along with other fish of 27 lb 9 oz, 24 lb 7 oz and 22 lb 8 oz and two scaley mirrors of about 20 lb that he had in recent sessions, caught on Mainline Pineapple pop-ups and Cell bottom baits at pegs 1, 9, 10 and 11.

BONDS LAKE

This is a great time to grab yourself a slice of the action on Bonds, which regularly produces multiple catches of carp to double figures on a variety of methods, from pole to feeder and straight lead to waggler.

Tom Fuller had 17 carp to 14 lb on float fished pellets in the near margins over loosefeed.
And Andy Bruce, from Essex, celebrated his birthday on Wednesday with 13 carp to 12 lb on straight lead and banded 8 mm carp pellets to the island.
Dynamite Robin Red or krill pellets in particular seem to be working well on Bonds, along with maggots, corn and luncheon meat.

MILTON LAKE

Milton Lake comes into its own at this time of year for tench, bream and crucians, along with a few bonus carp, either on waggler with a running line, or pole close in or up against the lily pads, where fish can often be lined up with a little-and-often loosefeeding approach.

Luke Simmons, from Guildford, caught 14 tench to 5 lb, along with 13 crucians to 2 lb 6 oz and a few roach, rudd and perch, at peg 18, on pole and chopped worm, corn and soft pellets.
Martin Smith, from Abinger, had 12 tench to 6 lb and six crucians and a nice roach, at peg 21, on waggler and red maggots.
