THIS WEEK’S FISHING! (in brief)
There is some good sport to be had with the Old Lake’s zander, both in terms of numbers and size.
Dave Wayman achieved a new personal best with a fish of 10 lb 1 oz, and that was one of eight runs he had during his midweek session.
Temple’s most distinctive carp has been banked, David McCallum landing The Ghost at 36 lb 14 oz for a new personal best.
Despite very changeable weather, it took 50 lb of bream to win the latest midweek contest, favoured peg 38 producing the winning catch.
Andy Hall has sent us pictures of his recent trio of big fish, topped by The Parrot at 32 lb 14 oz.
And with the Full Moon on Tuesday, this should be a sunny week with winds falling away to light, but some chilly nights down to just above freezing.
It’s looking like a week of single-figure values, starting with 8 on a sunny Monday, but falling to 3 overnight into another sunny day of 7 on Tuesday, with 4 overnight into a sunny Wednesday of 8, then 3 again into a cloudier and cooler 6 on Thursday, with 3 overnight into a fairly sunny Friday of 8, with 4 overnight into a mainly cloudy Saturday of 8, with 4 overnight into a Sunday of 7. Winds should start as strong south-westerlies on Monday, becoming more westerly as the day goes on and through Tuesday, but then falling to moderate during the night into Wednesday and moving round through the day to south-westerlies and then to south-easterlies. These should be lighter still on Thursday and changing constantly to come from the south, west, east and north, ending up as moderate north-easterlies on Friday, becoming north-westerlies and then westerlies on Saturday but lighter, and moderate south-easterlies on Sunday. So, a bright and sunny week due to Tuesday’s Full Moon, with dry but cool weather and generally lightish winds, continuing in this vein into the week after.

OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING

You never quite know what you will catch when you put a bait out for zander on the Old Lake, but the chances are you will get plenty of action.
Kent angler Dave Wayman was fishing peg 10 on the Front Bank, and his eight chances led to three fish landed and one lost.
But the pick of his catch was a new personal best 10 lb 1 oz zander, the others weighing just over 3 lb each.
Roach tail sections on a running leger was the successful tactic, the big fish coming before dark.
The Old Lake’s bream were also in a feeding mood, it taking 50 lb to win the latest Saturday match, favoured peg 38 on the Long Bank producing the winning catch, with casts towards the island.

TEMPLE LAKE – CARP

Pick of this week’s catches is The Ghost at 36 lb 14 oz, giving David McCallum, from Twickenham, a new personal best.
David was fishing from peg 9, and more details and a picture should be on the way soon.
Andy Hall has sent us photos of this three recent big fish, including The Parrot at 32 lb 14 oz for a new personal best, as reported last week.
Andy was on a 24-hour visit and also had ‘the slate-grey common’ at 28 lb 8 oz and another common of 27 lb 2 oz, fishing peg 3 with small amounts of bait with ready partimix and corn.

BONDS LAKE

The carp are catchable in good numbers, with the water temperature still mild, on feeder or straight lead to the island margins or in open water on a pellet waggler, or down the edge on a pole later on.
And there are also roach and perch to be caught on pole or waggler, when the carp let you keep a bait in the water.

MILTON LAKE

Milton Lake is the place to head for if you want tench, bream, crucians and specimen roach, along with a chance of a bonus carp, either on waggler with a running line, or pole close in or up against the lily pads.
Fish can often be lined up with a little-and-often loosefeeding approach, using small baits and very small balls of groundbait, and are particularly active when the weather is warm.
