THIS WEEK’S FISHING! (in brief)
A week-long session produced lots of action for Temple regular Mark Savage, who banked seven fish topped by a 32 lb 2 oz mirror carp.
All of his five ‘twenties’ and a 17 were commons, in what has been a good week for common carp, the biggest fish being the only mirror of his busy visit, which produced so much action he ran out of his usual bait.
The Old Lake bream showed their liking for the more settled weather with a 99 lb winning weight in the midweek contest, a catch that even a 20 lb carp in the match couldn’t beat.
The tradition of anglers on their first visits to Temple doing well continued with a ‘thirty’ and a ‘twenty’ for Max Delahunty.
Tony King had a busy overnighter of five carp and a tench, and former tackle shop manager at Bury Hill Russ Evans returned for a bream session and landed 22 from the middle of the Front Bank.
There’s a gradual change coming in the weather this week with the approach of the big Harvest Moon on Saturday, bringing an end to the changeable spell of south-westerly winds with showers and some blustery winds, in favour of high pressure, winds from the north and east, and very bright, sunny days with cooler nights. Before that, there’s the tail end of the winds that were Hurricane Dorian, but now no more than a moderate blow on Wednesday and Thursday, before a return to the calm conditions of last weekend, with lots of sunshine. Monday looks like being the wettest and coolest day of the week, with showers all day and no more than 14 degrees C, with 9 overnight into a much warmer and very sunny Tuesday of 18, with 11 overnight into an even warmer but cloudy Wednesday of 20 with 13 overnight into a slightly brighter and warmer Thursday of 21, with 12 overnight into a very sunny Friday of 18, with 9 overnight into an equally sunny Saturday of 19 for the Full Moon, with 9 overnight and the same on Sunday, getting warmer still for the week after. Winds should start as lightish southerlies on Monday, become lighter and more northerly on Tuesday, swinging round to strong south-westerlies on Wednesday and Thursday, but lighter on Friday as they become north-westerlies, and then light northerlies on Saturday, strengthening and becoming more north-easterly for Sunday and the week after. So, a transition week from warm, wet south-westerlies to brighter and calmer days with northerly winds, but with a gusty patch in midweek ahead of the changeover, and then a warm and sunny spell for the following week.

OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING

The cooler temperatures and overcast skies at the end of the summer are good bream fishing conditions, as was shown by the latest midweek contest, which was won with 99 lb 12 oz.
Greg Andrews was the angler falling just short of the ‘ton’, fishing peg 2 with a Method feeder at distance in this Round Three contest.
Runner-up was Norman Youldon with 90 lb at peg 18, which included a 20 lb 8 oz carp, weighed and returned immediately, landed on a pole.
Third was Tony Morris with 78 lb 4 oz from peg 34 on Method feeder, ahead of Mark Smith on 70 lb 6 oz from peg 37, on groundbait feeder.
Russ Evans also had an enjoyable bream session, landing 22 fish to 4 lb during a pleasure visit, from peg 10 on the Front Bank, using a cage feeder and double corn on a size 16 hook.
Carp angler Tony King, from Woking, fished on Friday night and landed five fish, the biggest a mirror of 15 lb 2 oz, along with a tench, all on 18 mm CC Moore Pacific Tuna boilies in snowman presentations.

TEMPLE LAKE – CARP

Mark Savage found carp showing around the lake and perfect weather for his week-long visit, and he made the most of the opportunity with seven fish to 32 lb 2 oz.
The biggest fish came at the end of his session, and was his only mirror carp, the others being five 20 lb-plus commons and one of 17 lb.
Fishing peg 9 to the left-hand margin, tight to the pads, Mark started with a 24 lb common, then the 17, then a 24 lb 7 oz common, then one of 26 lb 7 oz, and a 25, before he ran out of his fishmeal pop-ups and had to switch to Mainline Activ-8.
He still added a 20 lb 2 oz fish and then the big mirror, this one on a 16 mm Baitworks Scent from Hell pop-up, with pellets glugged in Liver Extract.
Also landing a ‘thirty’ was new member Max Delahunty, on his first visit, bagging a 30 lb common and adding a 26 lb mirror for good measure.
Max was fishing peg 3 with 16 mm Sticky Baits Manilla pop-ups cast tight to the island.
Chris Spencer, from Great Bookham, landed a 28 lb common from peg 1, on an 18 mm Mainline Cell bottom bait in a snowman with buoyant corn, over a few freebies.
And last week we reported that Jose Garcia had a 24 lb 7 oz fully scaled, on a home-made Peach boilie.
This week he has added a 21 lb 6 oz common, from peg 14, on a home-made Toffee and Coconut boilie and a Ronnie rig, with six baits in a PVA bag, casting tight to the island.

BONDS LAKE

The carp are catchable in good numbers, with the water temperature warm, on feeder or straight lead to the island margins or in open water on a pellet waggler, or down the edge on a pole later on.
And there are also roach and perch to be caught on pole or waggler, when the carp let you keep a bait in the water.

MILTON LAKE

Milton Lake is the place to head for if you want tench, bream, crucians and specimen roach, along with a chance of a bonus carp, either on waggler with a running line, or pole close in or up against the lily pads.
Fish can often be lined up with a little-and-often loosefeeding approach, using small baits and very small balls of groundbait, and are particularly active when the weather is warm.
