THIS WEEK’S FISHING! (in brief)
The recent run of south-westerly winds has got the Old Lake carp feeding in numbers, and that has reflected in some big catches.
Vince Sibley landed 20 in a 24-hour visit last Sunday, the biggest a 24 lb 3 oz common.
And Nick Ridge had 25 carp on a four-day visit, the biggest 22 lb, while friend Lily, fishing at the next peg, had nine to 19 lb.
And both anglers got some unexpected tench action, showing what could be achieved if they were targeted.
Vince had a personal best tench of 6 lb 14 oz, and another of 6 lb 10 oz, while Nick had 6 lb fish as well.
Bream specialist Ray Parker decided to give the carp in Bonds Lake a go for a change, and landed 17 to 10 lb on a small Method feeder.
Ray has had up to 40 bream in a day on the Old Lake in past visits, and more recently large numbers of tench and crucians on Milton Lake, so now he’s added Bonds to his list of successes.
And Temple Lake produced a 22 lb 9 oz common carp for Bury Hill regular Claudiu Popa, who has had good catches of carp from the Old Lake in previous visits.
It looks like being a warmer week in prospect this week, a couple of degrees or so up on last week’s average high of 19, at 21 or 22 degrees C, largely dry and sunny, and warming up steadily as the week progresses, through into 23 or maybe higher at the weekend. Monday looks set to be a similar day to Sunday, with a mixture of sunshine and afternoon showers, the high being 20, falling to 11 overnight in the clearing skies, with a dry and fairly sunny 19 on Tuesday, with 12 overnight into a sunnier Wednesday of 20, with 12 overnight again into a fairly sunny day on Thursday and 21, with 13 overnight into another day of sunny spells and 22 on Friday, with 13 overnight again into more of the same on Saturday and at least 23, with 14 overnight into a similar Sunday, before a drop of four or five degrees for Monday week. Winds should be moderate to strong south-westerlies or westerlies for the whole week, strongest on Monday, becoming a little lighter as the week goes on, with light to moderate west-south-westerlies on Friday and lighter still through the weekend. So, a very pleasant and fishy week in prospect, with not too much rain, a favourable wind but without anything too lively, and a mix of sunshine and cloud, offering a chance of some good catches in enjoyable temperatures.

OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING

While brisk south-westerly winds and overcast skies may seem like disappointing weather for August, it is much better for catching fish than the expected hot and dry days.
That has been shown in recent catches of good numbers of Old Lake carp, two visitors banking 20, to specimen size, along with some bonus big tench.
Vince Sibley led the way last Sunday with 20 carp in 24 hours, the biggest an impressive 24 lb 3 oz common, along with two big tench, the biggest of which was a new PB for him, at 6 lb 14 oz, and also some bream.
The West Byfleet angler was fishing peg 34 with single 16 mm Sticky Baits Manilla boilies and PVA bags of pellets and hemp delivered with a bait-boat to three-quarters of the way across or right across to the island.
And Nick Ridge, from East Grinstead, had 25 carp to 22 lb on his four-day visit, including nine tench to 6 lb, all on 18 mm Solar Club Mix and TunaMino boilies.
Fishing alongside him at pegs 2 and 3 was Lily, who had nine carp to 19 lb on Mainline Cell baits.

TEMPLE LAKE – CARP

Claudiu Popa has enjoyed some good catches of carp from the Old Lake in past visits, and he added to his tally with a Temple fish on his most recent session.
Fishing peg 9, Clapham angler Claudiu had a 22 lb 9 oz common on Saturday night, on a 15 mm UberBaits UberNutz pop-up tipped with corn, cast in the margins.

BONDS LAKE

Ray Parker is more used to landed big catches of bream from the Old Lake, but he turned his hand to carp catching on Bonds for his latest visit, and ended up with 17 to 10 lb.
Guildford angler Ray used a small Method feeder and soft pellets on the hook, with soaked pellets in the feeder, cast tight to the island from peg 13.

MILTON LAKE

Milton Lake is the place to head for if you want tench, bream, crucians and specimen roach, along with a chance of a bonus carp, either on waggler with a running line, or pole close in or up against the lily pads.
Fish can often be lined up with a little-and-often loosefeeding approach, using small baits and very small balls of groundbait, and are particularly active when the weather is warm.
