THIS WEEK’S FISHING! (in brief)
Temple Lake’s most distinctive fish, The Ghost, has been landed at 35 lb 10 oz, an increase on its weight last summer.
Martin Plank, who has had carp to 38 lb from Temple in previous seasons, was the captor, also landing a 23 lb 8 oz mirror.
Bonds Lake has also been producing good sport, John King landing 17 carp to 10 lb during his day session, on pellet waggler set shallow.
Good numbers of bream are being caught on the Old Lake, the midweek match being won with 61 lb 2 oz, pegs 36, 37 and 37 being the hotspots.
And there is plenty of carp action to be had on the Old Lake, two anglers sharing a catch of 18 to 17 lb from the pegs behind the island, 74 and 75.
After the heatwave temperatures of Friday and Saturday, there was a pleasant cooling to a more seasonable 27 degrees C for June on Sunday, having reached 31 on Saturday, and this week should provide an average high of a comfortable 21, with lots of sunshine and no sign of rain, due to winds mainly from the north, but warming up again for next weekend. Monday should be sunny and 21, with some cloud in the afternoon, followed by 11 overnight into Tuesday and similar but with more cloud and 20 as high pressure moves in, with 12 overnight into a Wednesday of the same values and a bit more sunshine, then 12 overnight into a very sunny Thursday of 22, 13 overnight into a fairly sunny Friday of 22, and 13 overnight into a more cloudy Saturday of 23, with 12 overnight into a Sunday of 25, before a slight cooling into Monday week. Winds should start as moderate westerlies, becoming lighter and northerly on Tuesday, similar on Wednesday but with a trace of easterly, similar on Thursday but more northerly again, a bit stronger on Friday with a bit more westerly, and the same but a bit lighter on Saturday and more easterly on Sunday, strengthening into south-westerlies on Monday week and the risk of thunder and lightning as moist, warm air from the new direction meets the cool dry air. So, until then a very pleasant week to be outdoors, with lots of sunshine, some cloud cover, only moderate-to-light winds, double-figure values at night, no rain expected and daytime temperatures neither too hot nor too cool.

OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING

There are plenty of carp to be caught, as shown by the 18 fish that Noel Loftus and Neil Vickers landed, fishing behind the island on pegs 74 and 75.
The pair had fish to 17 lb on a combination of 15 mm krill and fruity pop-ups, and white Toffee bottom baits.
And the bream provided some good weights in the first in a series of four midweek matches, run by Mark Hathway, who led the way in Wednesday’s opener, most of the fish coming on feeder tactics.
Mark had 61 lb 2 oz from peg 37, ahead of Andy Ryan on 60 lb 10 oz at peg 36, with Norman Youldon third on 47 lb 14 oz, from peg 38.
John Swann was fourth with 47 lb 10 oz from peg 32, and Simon Watford fifth with 45 lb 6 oz.

TEMPLE LAKE – CARP

The lateset capture of The Ghost has shown that it has spawned successfully and is a good 1 lb heavier than it was last summer.
Martin Plank was the captor, at a weight of 35 lb 10 oz, and he also had a 23 lb 8 oz mirror carp, both from peg 6, fishing two rod lengths out in front of peg 8 with 16 mm Carp Company Icelandic Red with Caviar & Cranberry pop-ups, baiting with hemp, maize and pellets.
The last reported banking of The Ghost was two weeks ago at 36 lb 8 oz to Raymond Bateman, the first reported capture since last October, when Richard Daines landed it at 36 lb 2 oz, and when it was caught last August, to Jon Botting, it weighed 34 lb 4 oz.
Also in action was Sam Phillips, with a mirror carp of 29 lb and a common of 22 lb 6 oz, from peg 11, on DSTR Baits.
Dale Burrows landed his first Temple fish, a common of 23 lb 15 oz, from peg 12, on Mainline Cell cast to the island.
Mark Savage had a brace of carp, a 22 lb common and an 18 lb 8 oz mirror, on fishmeal boilies over 10 mm freebies cast tight to the far pads from peg 9.
And Ray Harding rounded off his successful four-day session, which included the 31 lb 8 oz mirror and 24 lb 14 oz common reported last week, with a ‘twenty’ as he was packing up, on 15 mm Sticky Baits Manilla bottom baits with 12 mm Mainline Cell pop-ups over a scattering of freebies close to the island.

BONDS LAKE

The carp are catchable in good numbers, now that temperatures are climbing, and there are still roach and perch to be caught on pole or waggler tactics, when with carp let you keep a bait in the water.

John King, from Addlestone, showed what can be achieved when he landed 17 carp to 10 lb during his visit, all on pellet waggler and 8 mm hook baits and offerings, firing them over his float with a catapult, and fishing 4 ft deep.

MILTON LAKE

Milton Lake is the place to head for if you want tench, bream, crucians and specimen roach, along with a chance of a bonus carp, either on waggler with a running line, or pole close in or up against the lily pads.
Fish can often be lined up with a little-and-often loosefeeding approach using small baits, and very small balls of groundbait, and are particularly active when the weather is warm.
