THIS WEEK’S FISHING! (in brief)
Another of Temple Lake’s heavyweights has been landed, in the form of the Double Row Linear, at 37 lb 6 oz.
Lake regular Matt White banked the fish, its first report capture for two months, when it came out at its heaviest ever weight of 39 lb.
Another noted fish, The Long Common, has been out three times in a week, after going on a feeding spree, twice to Mick Warren within 12 hours at 31 lb 8 oz, and then to Ray Harding at 29 lb.
Good catches continue to be made on the Old Lake, father and son Dan and Connor Lucas sharing 22 carp and four tench, despite reeling in at night during their 36-hour session.
And there are still plenty of bream keen to feed, 77 lb 10 oz winning the Mark Hathway midweek contest, caught by Fred Fairman.
There looks set to be a pleasant feel to the weather this week with temperatures averaging highs of 19 degrees C each day and plenty of sunshine mixed in with some cloud, but largely dry. The warm weather of the past couple of days is likely to slowly edge away as the north and north-easterly winds give way to light-to-moderate north-westerlies and then south-westerlies, bringing night-time and daytime temperatures that are more even, rather than hot days and chilly nights. Monday looks likely to have a high of 21 and sunshine and cloud, with 13 overnight into Tuesday and 20 with more of the same, then 19 on Wednesday and a slightly cooler 11 overnight into Thursday at 18, which brings the chance of a short afternoon shower. Then there is expected to be a cooler night of 9 into a sunnier start to Friday of 17 and 9 again into a cloudy Saturday of 18 with 11 overnight into a warmer Sunday of 21. After light north-easterlies on Monday, winds should become moderate northerlies on Tuesday, moderate north-westerlies on Wednesday, slightly stronger on Thursday, becoming more westerly on Friday and south-westerly by the end of Saturday, lighter again on what should be a warm Sunday. So a typical, pleasant late-summer week while autumn waits in the wings to make its entrance later this month.

OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING

Carp fishing on the Old Lake continues to be lively, the best reported catches being a shared 22-fish and two individual catches of 14, the biggest 28 lb.
Father and son Dan and Connor Lucas shared the 22 fish to 20 lb and four tench on a 36-hour visit on pegs 2 and 3, during which they reeled in at night to get some rest.
Another lake regular, Gerald Kosan, landed 14 carp to 28 lb from peg 74 on a 48-hour session, nine of them commons, the biggest 21 lb, the mirrors topped by a 28 lb fish, all on 18 mm Mainline Cell boilies with offerings of eight baits in small PVA bags.
New member Peter Mills also had 14 carp, to 20 lb 11 oz, fishing half way along the Long Bank with 18 mm Carp Company Icelandic Red boilies.
Ken Nightingale landed three carp to 16 lb 6 oz from peg 2, and lost a bigger fish, during a three-night session.
And Lee Goldsmith has sent in pictures from his session of five carp, the biggest a 22 lb common, from peg 2, on Sticky Baits The Krill combined with Garlic boilies in a snowman.
In terms of bream catches, the Mark Hathway midweeker on the Front Bank was won by Fred Fairman with 77 lb 10 oz from peg 1 on feeder.
Runner-up by ounces was Dave Johnson with 77 lb 8 oz from peg 2 on pole, ahead of Chris Reeves with 58 lb 12 oz from peg 16 on pole and worms, with Mark Hathway fourth from peg 11 with 42 lb 8 oz, on long-range feeder.
And a pleasure session for John Everiss, from Mitcham, produced around 40 lb of bream and skimmers, five of the fish being sizeable ones, from peg 11, on 13-metre pole, corn hook baits sorting out the bigger fish.

TEMPLE LAKE – CARP

The Double Row Linear is among the ‘A-team’ of upper ‘thirties’ in Temple, and this week it fell to Matt White at 37 lb 6 oz.
Matt was fishing peg 1, and commented that the fish was “in immaculate condition.”
The previous reported capture was at the start of July when Terry Baker had the fish at its heaviest ever reported weight of 39 lb.
A good indication of how keen the fish are to feed at present is the capture of the Long Common three times in a week.
Mick Warren had the fish at 31 lb 8 oz in the evening at the start of a 48-hour session on peg 3, and early the next morning he landed a fish that turned out to be the Long Common again.
And then Ray Harding had the fish again at 29 lb, also from peg 3, his third or fourth capture of this fish, this time with a 20 lb 6 oz common.
Mick was using a Mainline Cell wafter and a few freebies around the area and then Cell again for the second capture, but from a different part of the swim.
Ray fished a single 15 mm Mainline Hybrid bottom bait over a scattering of loose offerings tight to the far margins.
Also in action was bailiff Sam Sawyers, who had a 24 lb 11 oz mirror carp on a JHBaits Nuti-B pop-up, having landed his first Temple ‘thirty’ back in April.
And another bailiff, Clive Elson, got on the scoresheet with a 20 lb common from peg 9, on the same bait, in open water over a handful of freebies.

Jon Botting has sent in some great pictures of his capture of The Ghost at 34 lb 4 oz from peg 9, reported last week.
The Horsham angler now needs only Nemo for the ‘full set’.
Jon also landed mirrors of 21 lb and 19 lb, on single 14 mm A2 Baits Creamy Toffee pop-ups over particles.

BONDS LAKE

Bonds has been in great form this summer, as indicated by how popular it has been, often the first lake to fill up on warm weekend days.
One of the great attractions about Bonds is how a variety of tactics work, meaning visitors can fish in a way that they enjoy and still catch plenty of fish.
Pole or feeder, straight lead or waggler, or pellet waggler up in the water with bait fired over the top all work well, and the fish keep on the move, giving lots of anglers a slice of the action.

MILTON LAKE

Milton Lake comes into its own at this time of year for tench, bream and crucians, along with a few bonus carp, either on waggler with a running line, or pole close in or up against the lily pads, where fish can often be lined up with a little-and-often loosefeeding approach.
