THIS WEEK’S FISHING! (in brief)
The Old Lake bream continue to feed in large numbers, despite the hottest week of the year, with several days of over 30 degrees C.
The Matchfishing-scene.co.uk match group fished the second round of their summer league, and it took 81 lb 8 oz to win it, on feeder and pellets.
Temple Lake’s ‘twenties’ continued to feed, Ray Harding landing three and Jordan Jeffrey one, following on from Mark Constable’s two last week.
The Old Lake was in fine form ahead of the 24-hour Pairs carp match at the weekend, producing a rumoured 22-fish overnighter catch and a 26 lb common, while also rounding off Korda’s Masterclass 6 DVD footage.
After last week’s blistering temperatures, there is a slightly cooler feel to the weather this week, but temperatures are still high, rising from the lower values this weekend following the first proper rain for some time. Monday looks like being 23 degrees C with sunshine but also cloud and the chance of a morning shower, before a bright afternoon, Tuesday 22 and similar, and Wednesday the same but dry. Thursday brings the start of the rise in temperatures, with a cloudless 24, Friday a cloudless 26, and the weekend also a cloudless 26 and 28 or maybe even 30 on Sunday. Overnight values should average a warm 15 degrees, reaching 17 or 18 from Friday into Saturday. Winds should start as moderate to strong south-westerlies on Monday, becoming lighter on Tuesday through to Thursday, when they look likely to become north-westerlies on Friday and lightish, and then lightish north-easterlies for the weekend. So, after a short interlude, the heat looks like it’s on the way back.

OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING

No matter how hot the weather, the Old Lake bream seem keen to feed, as the latest Matchfishing-scene contest showed, producing a winning weight of 81 lb 8 oz.
Steve Parkin, from Mickleham, led the way among the field of 18, from peg 74, behind the island, casting banded 6 mm pellets close to cover on the island opposite.
On the other side of the island, at peg 33, Norman Youldon landed 64 lb 4 oz of bream for second, ahead of Keith Hogg, pegged next to Steve Parkin, who had 48 lb 6 oz.
The Front Bank produced weights of 43 lb and 25 lb.
Plenty of carp were being caught in the lead-up to the 24-hour Pairs competition, including a rumoured 22 fish on an overnighter, and a 26 lb common.
Dan Fergusson, from Epsom, had five carp from peg 15, including a personal best 14 lb common, on 15 mm NashBait pink Citruz pop-ups in snowman presentations with bottom baits, over a few loose offerings.
Sam Holding, from Wimbledon, landed three carp to 20 lb, which was a common, from peg 18, on single boilies over loose offerings.
And Alfie Swieton had a 16 lb mirror from peg 73 on an 18 mm Pineapple pop-up.
The Korda Team, including Ali Hamidi, were on the Old Lake last week to finish off their Masterclass Vol. 6 DVD.
They enjoyed daytime and night-time action, which will feature in the free DVD, which should be in tackle shops soon.

TEMPLE LAKE – CARP

Ray Harding continued his good run of form, following on from last week’s 32 lb 5 oz mirror carp from peg 9 on 18 mm Mainline Cell bottom baits tight to the reeds.
This week he added three ‘twenties’ – a 27 lb 8 oz mirror, a 23 lb 2 oz common and a 22 lb mirror.
Ray was fishing peg 3 with 18 mm Cell bottom baits again, over a bed of loose freebies tight to the island.
Another Temple regular, Jordan Jeffrey, was also in action, landing a 21 lb 12 oz mirror on a single CC Moore Live System bait in open water.
And Mark Constable has sent in pictures of his brace of ‘twenties’ from last week, at 21 lb 11 oz and 20 lb 2 oz, from peg 11, on 14 mm JHBaits Nuti–B offerings, with PVA bags of 10-15 freebies, into open water.

BONDS LAKE

This is a great time to grab yourself a slice of the action on Bonds, which regularly produces multiple catches of carp to double figures on a variety of methods, from pole to feeder and straight lead to waggler.

MILTON LAKE

Milton Lake comes into its own at this time of year for tench, bream and crucians, along with a few bonus carp, either on waggler with a running line, or pole close in or up against the lily pads, where fish can often be lined up with a little-and-often loosefeeding approach.
