THIS WEEK’S FISHING! (in brief)
The hot weather seems to have brought out the best in the crucian carp fishing on Milton Lake, with up to 38 fish being landed per angler.
Lake regular Chris Stott showed how it’s done with the huge catch, which also included tench, roach, rudd and perch.
Bream are another species that seem to thrive in the heat, and this week catches of up to 40 fish per angler have been made.
Ian Burningham returned the week after landing over 40 of them, and this time he had 25 while his pal, Terry, landed over 40.
There are still good numbers of Old Lake carp to be caught, Graham Bicknell catching 14 to 25 lb on an overnighter, while Richard Urquhart also had 14 in his session.
After a week of very hot weather, there’s more of the same in the forecast for the coming week, with top temperatures in the high 20s. The average high this week looks likely to be 25, and although there may be a bit more cloud than last week, there are still expected to be cloudless days and the only risk of rain is the chance of a passing electric storm from Wednesday to Saturday. Monday looks like a cloudless day of 25, followed by the same and 24 on Tuesday, a cloudier day but still 24 on Wednesday, the same but 25 on Thursday and 26 on Friday and Saturday, before a cloudless and windless 26 on Sunday. Overnight values should stay in double figures and reach as high as 16 degrees each night from Thursday night onwards. Winds are likely to be from a north-easterly direction and light to moderate, easing slightly from midweek and becoming westerly on Friday and into the weekend.

OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING

Bream sport shows no sign of slowing down on the Old Lake, with over 40 fish landed per angler for the second week running.
Ian Burningham, from Chertsey, returned after landing more than 40 fish to over 5 lb last week, along with tench to 4 lb, while fishing peg 9 on the Front Bank with pole and corn or soft hooker pellets.
This time he had 25 fish and a tench, while pal Terry had over 40 bream, fishing a feeder with a long hook length, which proved critical, and hard red halibut pellets banded on the hook.
Ian used an 11-metre pole and soft pellets over groundbait, feeding six small balls at the start and catching immediately, topping up with more later.
Carp anglers were also catching bream, Graham Bicknell, from Midhurst, landing seven in between his 14 carp on an overnighter at peg 2.
Graham had a 25 lb common and a 22 lb mirror, along with the other high-doubles, all on single 18 mm bottom baits over scattered free offerings.
Richard Urquhart, from Croydon, had a successful session at peg 75, around the back of the island, landing 14 fish.
And Mark Constable, from Westcott, did an overnighter in the middle of the front bank and included a 16 lb common in his catch, on a single 18 mm JH Baits boilie over freebies.

TEMPLE LAKE – CARP

A slower week for reported catches on Temple in the hot weather, but with the fish focusing on regaining condition after spawning, and some high-pressure storms possible to stir things into action, there is always a chance of a feeding spell, leading to the capture of a fish or two for anglers in the right place at the right time.

BONDS LAKE

This is a great time to grab yourself a slice of the action on Bonds, which regularly produces multiple catches of carp to double figures on a variety of methods, from pole to feeder and straight lead to waggler.

MILTON LAKE

Regulars on Milton Lake are enjoying some great sport, in particular with the crucians, which are responding really well at the moment.
Chris Stott, from Weybridge, is an old hand at getting the best from them, having landed up to 107 per session in past seasons, and he managed 38 in his latest visit.
Chris fish a rod length out with double red maggot over small balls of groundbait laced with 2 mm pellets, getting through half a bag of pellets and half a bag of green groundbait.
He also landed tench to 5 lb, roach, rudd and perch, fishing at peg 23.
