THIS WEEK’S FISHING! (in brief)
The carp action on the Old Lake has picked up now that more fish are feeding, following their brief interest in spawning, meaning multiple runs and fish to over 20 lb.
Chris Chapman landed 12 carp during his session on the Front Bank, including two ‘twenties’, which is a size that has been missing from catches in recent weeks.
But the Old Lake’s tench and bream continue to make the most of the chance to beat the carp to anglers’ baits.
Lee Richards took a boat along to the Jungle and had a busy day of four tench, ten bream, 15 skimmers and four roach.
Temple Lake produced a ‘near-thirty’ common carp, in the form a 29 lb 12 oz fish, as the bigger specimens start to get back to feeding properly after spawning.
The warm weather has also been boosting catches on Milton Lake, 25 crucians and four tench being the best reported session, for Matt Hobden.
There looks likely to be a slow cooling of the weather through this week, from a high of 24 degrees C on Sunday to 19 or 20 by next weekend, with more cloudy conditions than of late. Monday should be warm and sunny, with 23 degrees and a moderate south-westerly breeze, followed by 22 on Tuesday but with a lot less sunshine and lighter winds, and then a sunny Wednesday of 23 with slightly stronger winds. Thursday looks to be cooler, at 19, and winds are expected to move round to north-westerlies, remaining moderate, followed by a similar day but with lighter winds on Friday, and the same again but 20 degrees on Saturday, Sunday and into the start of next week.

• The predator fishing season begins on October 1 and finishes on March 14.

• Anyone who fancies being part of the night syndicate of anglers who are allowed to fish Temple and the Old Lake after dark for a £50 joining fee will be interested to hear that there are places available. To apply, get in touch with the office on 01306 883621.

• Anglers are reminded that fishing on Temple and night fishing on the Old Lake is available exclusively to members of the Bury Hill Specimen Carp Club. Membership cards must be carried at all times when on the fishery, and be available to bailiffs when they carry out checks prior to the evening lock-up.

OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING

The carp sport is beginning to take off on the Old Lake, with up to 12 fish per angler reported, including two ‘twenties’.
Chris Chapman, from Woking, led the way with a dozen fish from peg 16, including a 22 lb common and a 21 lb mirror, the other fish being between 19 lb and 17 lb.
Single 18 mm Mainline Cell bottom baits over free offerings were what the fish wanted, and so did lots of bream, which came Chris’s way.
Also in action was Stephen Spear, from Crawley, who had four fish to 14 lb during his session at peg 14, all of them commons, along with two tench to 6 lb and seven bream, all on Sticky Baits Bloodworm boilies.
Lee Richards, from Hayling Island, took a boat out to the Jungle and had a hectic day, catching four tench to 6 lb 8 oz, ten bream to 7 lb, 15 skimmers and four roach, all on float fished maggots.

TEMPLE LAKE – CARP

Temple produced a ‘near-thirty’ common carp this week, in the form of a 29 lb 12 oz fish (pictured here) for Mick Warren, who had another two fish come adrift.
Mick was fishing peg 9 with Mainline Cell wafters to the far margins over free offerings.
And Danny Lucas had a brace of ‘twenties’, at 23 lb and 21 lb, from peg 12 during a daytime session, fishing open water with single Cell hook baits.
Last week we reported how Adam Rogers had landed a 32 lb common and a 21 lb mirror from peg 5, the bigger fish on a new Mainline The Link wafter, and the smaller on a Cell wafter cast tight to the island.
He has sent in pictures, which are posted on this page.

BONDS LAKE

This is a great time to grab yourself a slice of the action on Bonds, which regularly produces multiple catches of carp to double figures on a variety of methods, from pole to feeder and straight lead to waggler.

MILTON LAKE

Milton Lake comes into its own at this time of year for tench, bream and crucians, along with a few bonus carp, either on waggler with a running line, or pole close in or up against the lily pads, where fish can often be lined up with a little-and-often loosefeeding approach.

Matt Hobden, from Woking, had a productive day, landing 25 crucians and four tench, using a centrepin reel and a pole float with hemp and casters, at peg 21.
