THIS WEEK’S FISHING! (in brief)
It’s now business as usual at the fishery after the brief closure caused by snow and ice over the first weekend of February.
On Monday the ice had thawed and fishing was able to resume, with much milder weather forecast.
A rise in temperature to double figures on Wednesday gave the fortnightly Stevie Gardener match a boost, and despite meltwater going in, a very respectable 45 lb was needed by Steve Sanders to win against 23 other anglers.
Saturday’s Gold Label Tackle Predator Day, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, raised over £1,000 and produced a best catch of seven zander and a pike, for Gardner Tackle rep Mike Lyddon.
Old Lake carp anglers have also been enjoying some action, finding the fish hungry after the enforced lay-off, and lots of bream muscling in on the action, up to 11 per angler on boilies.
And Bonds Lake is also producing the goods, anglers fishing for roach and perch with pole and maggots are finding carp still willing to feed, landing fish close to double figures in among the silver fish.
Temperatures look set to rise this week, from a high of 6 degrees C at the weekend to double figures by Tuesday and every day right through into next weekend. Night-time values look set to stay above freezing, no lower than 2 degrees, and there looks like no rain to come in the next week or more, but a couple of very sunny days at least, in particular on Thursday and Friday. Monday should give a high of 8 degrees and a good amount of sunshine, with temperatures falling to 2 overnight into Tuesday, which should be cloudier but warmer at 10 degrees. Then there should be no less than 6 overnight into Wednesday, which should reach 10 again and be cloudy, with 3 overnight into a very sunny Thursday of 11, with 4 overnight into another very sunny day of 11 on Friday, with 4 overnight into a fairly sunny Saturday of 10, and 3 overnight into Sunday of 11, with similar values into the week after and even milder nights. Winds look set to be changeable but not as strong as last week, starting as light-to-moderate north-westerlies on Monday, becoming lightish south-westerlies on Tuesday, similar on Wednesday, lightish south-easterlies on Thursday and Friday and into the weekend and beyond. So, some mild, calm and pleasant weather to spur the fish into feeding, along with some south-westerly winds and the ever-lengthening daylight hours.

OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING
Anglers in Saturday’s Gold Label Tackle Predator Day, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, braved gale-force winds but were rewarded with action, Mike Lyddon, from Woking landing eight fish.
His pike of 5 lb and seven zander to 6 lb came from peg 2, where he legered whole roach with just the heads cut off, using two single size 6 hooks on his rigs for the largish baits.
A total of around 30 anglers took part, and raised over £1,000 for the charity, in what has become a regular event at the fishery.
Steve Gardener’s midweek match was fished by 24 anglers, and Steve Sanders, from Epsom, finished top, with 45 lb of bream from behind the island.
Not far behind was John Swann, at the next peg to Steve, who had 43 lb, ahead of Ian McLaren on 42 lb and Terry Harrison on 41 lb.
Feeder was the main attack, but fish also fell to pole, and best baits were maggots or 6 and 8 mm Pineapple wafters.
On the carp front, Dan Webb did 24 hours from Friday into Saturday on a peg in the 70s behind the island and landed a mid-double-figure carp along with 11 bream, showing how well they are feeding.
TEMPLE LAKE – CARP
Hopefully the end of the ice and snow, and the arrival of a second week of milder weather, with double-figure values once again, will stir the fish into feeding, especially as the days are now getting noticeably longer and the sun has some warmth in it.

BONDS LAKE
A number of anglers are targeting the silver fish on Bonds, using pole tactics and a delicate approach, hoping to land some sizeable roach, along with good numbers of perch.
The carp are also showing an interest in their offerings, John West, from Lingfield, landing fish of 9 lb 14 oz and 8 lb 12 oz on pole and maggots, during a two-hour session, along with perch.
MILTON LAKE
Milton Lake is the place to head for if you want tench, bream, crucians and specimen roach, along with a chance of a bonus carp, either on waggler with a running line, or pole close in or up against the lily pads, where fish can often be lined up with a little-and-often loosefeeding approach using small baits, especially now that the weather has become milder.
