Old Lake Latest Catches week ending 28/10/18
Carp sport on the Old Lake has been busy, despite the chilly weather, and with milder conditions and south-westerly winds forecast going into this weekend, the prospects look good for some bumper catches.
Brian Mayne, from Redhill, landed six carp to 15 lb on an overnighter at peg 15, using 15 mm Mainline Cell bottom baits tipped with white Toppers, and with PVA stringers to deliver his free offerings.
Neil Vickers and Matt Surman, from Worcester Park, shared a catch of four carp to 22 lb on an overnighter at pegs 2 and 3, all of them commons, on 15 mm Mainline Banoffee boilies in snowman presentations with pop-ups, each bait having ten freebies close by.
Artur Piersa, from Shepherds Bush, had a brace of carp, at 20 lb and 17 lb, on an overnighter at peg 3, on 20 mm Sticky Baits The Krill boilies tipped with 12 mm Pineapple Toppers, putting out 1 kg of offerings about three-quarters of the way across.
And famous angler Graeme Pullen had a successful session for his Totally Awesome Fishing Show, landing bream on feeder and maggot-and-worm cocktails, and then using half roach baits with just a single swan shot on the line for the zander.
The free-to-watch result should be shown soon on their website’s weekly show, which is put out on Fridays at 7pm.
The successful start to the predator season has continued, providing lots of zander action and a good sprinkling of jack pike.
Lake regular Alan Pickering has already landed 36 zeds to 8 lb on his five short visits, his latest trip producing 14 to 6 lb in four hours, on small smelt deadbaits.
Reece Nyles was also kept busy, with 12 zander to 8 lb 11 oz and three pike to 8 lb, on small roach and smelt sections, while lake regular Janusz Kansik had seven in an evening, the best 7 lb, all on legered small sections of roach, keeping resistance to a minimum and recasting every 30 minutes if no run resulted.
Fishing friends Martin Reeves, Bex Nelson and Ben Taylor, from Surrey, managed to land nine zander and two pike, the biggest 6 lb, all in daylight in bright and sunny conditions.
Successful tactic was float fished half roach on single size 4 and 6 hook, and the key to their success was keeping on the move, dropping into empty swims on the Front and Long Banks and then moving on again.
