THIS WEEKS FISHING (IN BRIEF!)
Multiple catches of carp are on the cards from all of the lakes, including from Temple, where combinations of ‘thirties’ and upper-‘twenties’ are being landed.
Temple regular Matt White had two ‘thirties’ and a ‘twenty’ in one session, and Gary Knight a ‘thirty’ and three upper-‘twenties’.
It’s a similar picture on the Old Lake, where up to ten carp to 25 lb have been banked.
It looks as if the recent hot weather encouraged the carp to spawn on all of the lakes, in particular on Temple, following last week’s capture of Nemo at a pre-spawning 43 lb 1 oz.
The Old Lake bream are also in a feeding mood, 74 lb winning the Saturday match, with plenty of big backing weights, on a variety of methods, so pleasure catches could be a fair bit higher.
And there is still time to book in for the annual Carp Pairs match on July 29, to coincide with the RideLondon cycling event on that Sunday, which closes roads to the fishery for much of that day.
With high pressure in charge for the next few days, the hot weather looks set to stay around until the end of Thursday, giving around 29 degrees C each day, before a cooling to 20 or 21 for Friday and the weekend, with the chance of a shower. Monday looks to be similar to Sunday, with lightish south-easterly winds, 29 degrees and little in the way of cloud, with a bit more cloud between the sunny spells on Tuesday and 27 degrees, before winds strengthen slightly to moderate on Wednesday with mainly cloud. More sunshine and 27 degrees is expected on Thursday with stronger winds again, switching to south-westerlies, and a drop in temperature to 21 for Friday with even stronger winds, from a westerly direction, though lightening a little for Saturday and a cloudy 20 with the chance of a shower, and the same on Sunday and Monday. Overnight values look to be a sticky 17 degrees for the first few days, before a slight cooling to 14 on Thursday and Friday and 12 for the weekend and Monday.
• The predator fishing season begins on October 1 and continues until March 14.
• Anyone who fancies being part of the night syndicate of anglers who are allowed to fish Temple and the Old Lake after dark for a £50 joining fee will be interested to hear that there are places available. To apply, get in touch with the office on 01306 883621.
• Anglers are reminded that fishing on Temple and night fishing on the Old Lake is available exclusively to members of the Bury Hill Specimen Carp Club. Membership cards must be carried at all times when on the fishery, and be available to bailiffs when they carry out checks prior to the evening lock-up.
OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING
Some impressive catches of carp are being achieved in the warm weather and the post-spawning feed-up.
Adam Bennett landed ten, the biggest a 25 lb mirror, fishing peg 75 and casting to the point of the island with Sticky Baits Manilla boilies.
And fishing pals Paul Allen and Adrian Nuttall, from Carshalton, shared 11 carp, the best an 19 lb common, fishing pegs 14 and 16 on the Front Bank with single 18 mm Mainline Cell bottom baits over beds of freebies.
Bream anglers have some superb sport on offer, as shown by the recent Faulkner’s club match, which was won with 74 lb 14 oz.
Mark Ingham took the honours at peg 26, next to the building, on pole and pellets, using 6 mm pellets on the hook and feeding small amounts using a Matrix Toss Pot.
Match organiser Mark Parrett was second with 65 lb from peg 2 on a variety of methods, followed by Alan Adams with 51 lb from peg 4.
Steve Green had 48 lb, Michael Head 47 lb, Ken Hulf 45 lb and Fred Lane 42 lb.
This summer’s 24-hour Pairs Carp match, fished by 12 teams, is on Saturday and Sunday, July 29 and 30.
The draw will take place at 5pm on the Saturday, with fishing from 6pm until 6pm on the Sunday.
Entry costs £100 per pair, payable on booking, and if 12 teams take part, the winners will collect £300, with £150 for second and £100 for third. Optional pools of £25 will be available.

TEMPLE LAKE – CARP
Anglers on Temple are getting used to catching several fish per session, including a brace of ‘thirties’ and a ‘thirty’ and three upper-‘twenties’ this week.
Matt White led the way with three commons weighing 31 lb 14 oz, 30 lb 2 oz and 22 lb (see photos), all on Mainline Peaches & Cream boilies fished in the margins of peg 14.
Gary Knight had commons of 34 lb, 25 lb 14 oz, 25 lb 8 oz and 19 lb 1 oz (see photos), as well as a mirror carp of 27 lb 12 oz.
Gary fished peg 9 with 18 mm Mainline Essential Cell in open water or to the island margins, all of his fish being landed in daylight.
Brian Cox marked his first weekend on Temple with mirror carp of 28 lb 11 oz and 18 lb 6 oz from peg 3 (see photos below), casting close to the island channel with Carp Company Icelandic Red with Caviar & Cranberry baits over a few crushed freebies.
Josh Knights landed a 24 lb 5 oz common from peg 20 on a 15 mm Essential Cell boilie cast towards the aerator with a PVA bag of free samples.
John Botting, from Horsham, had a 22 lb 10 oz common from peg 5 on single 14 mm A2 Baits Creamy Toffee pop-up.
And Chris King, from Westcott, landed a 20 lb mirror from peg 6 on a single 18 mm Cell bottom bait with a PVA bag.
BONDS LAKE
Bonds regularly produces multiple catches of carp to double figures on a variety of methods, from pole to feeder and straight lead to waggler.
MILTON LAKE
Milton Lake is the place to try for a catch of prime roach, using a waggler on a running line or pole just a short distance out, close to the pads, where they can be lined up with a little-and-often loosefeeding approach. And in the mild spells there are crucians, tench and bream to be caught, along with occasional carp.
Milton Lake regular Alan Derbyshire found the fishing a bit harder going than usual due to the heat, but he still had double figures in numbers of tench and crucians by swapping his usual 13-metre pole and single maggot or pieces of worm over cupped-in groundbait, worms and maggots, for a small feeder and 6 mm pellets, his best tench being 3 lb 8 oz.
