Old Lake Latest Catches week ending 15/7/18
There’s no holding back the bream this year, which seem to be loving the hot weather.
Since the start of this heatwave there have been huge catches of bream, by matchmen as well as pleasure anglers.
And this week was no exception, producing a matchwinning haul of 104 lb 7 oz and a pleasure catch of 54 fish.
Steve Parkin, from Mickleham, led the way at peg 13 with 54 fish to 5 lb in an amazing afternoon, from 12noon to 6pm, fishing a cage feeder and 12-inch hook length to a 6 mm banded pellet on a size 14 hook.
And the Wiremill Lake club contest on Wednesday was won by Mike Bell with 104 lb 7 oz, from peg 2, on feeder and pellets.
Just one week ago Mike won the Crystal Palace AA contest on the Front Bank with 84 lb 14 oz of fish to 5 lb from peg 11, on feeder and 8 mm pellets with 8 mm fluoro dumbells.
Runner-up in this latest contest was Steve Edwards with 83 lb 8 oz from peg 10, on feeder and worm and casters, ahead of John Greenslade with 79 lb 12 oz on feeder and pellets, and Phil Waddington with 60 lb 10 oz on the same.
Also in bream action was Terry Petman, from Merstham, who was fishing this weekend and by lunchtime, when he took a break, he’d had 25 bream, fishing a Hybrid feeder towards the island from peg 33, with 6 mm Pineapple wafters.
Among the many fine carp catches was a return visit for father and daughter Chris and Evie Chapman, from Woking, who shared another overnighter on the Front Bank at pegs 16 and 18.
Twelve-year-old Evie did best with nine fish, all between 14 lb and 18 lb, Chris landing six to 17 lb, along with her first ever tench, on 18 mm Mainline Cell boilies over freebies, using PVA bags.
Pals Mark Easton and Simon Zammit, from Leatherhead, had two nights on pegs 35 and 37, mark landing 14 carp to 18 lb, and Simon six to 18 lb, all on Mainline’s new The Link 18 mm baits and their Essential Cell.
Sixteen-year-old Josh Birt, from Woking, had a brace of carp to 17 lb in a morning before trying his luck on Bonds Lake, his fish coming from peg 34 on 15 mm Strawberry pop-ups with PVA bags of pellets.
And Jose Garcia and Robert Haddad shared a catch of four carp to 18 lb 6 oz on the Front Bank, along with bream and tench to 5 lb, losing an estimated 20-25 lb carp at the net, for “a fantastic day’s fishing we both thoroughly enjoyed”.
And don’t forget the 24-hour Pairs Carp Match, fished by 12 teams, on Saturday and Sunday, July 28 and 29.
The draw will take place at 5pm on the Saturday, with fishing from 7pm until 6pm on Sunday.
Entry costs £100 per pair, payable on booking, and if 12 teams take part, the winners will collect £300, with £150 for second and £100 for third, £50 going to the captor of the biggest fish. Optional pools of £25 will be available.
Pegs will be drawn as pairs of numbers, giving one favoured swim and one lesser one, as in past years, to ensure even distribution of hotspots. Pairs can decide which angler will fish which of the two swims drawn.
