Old Lake Latest Catches week ending 12/8/18
The Old Lake bream shoals continue to attract match and pleasure anglers, and keep them busy with regular action and big bags of fish.
The Hackbridge AS contest produced a winning weight of 112 lb for John Swann, just a week after losing his glasses at the lake.
A thoughtful angler handed them in, and with his sharp vision restored, John caught all day on pole or feeder at peg 37, filling several keepnets to win.
Runner-up was John Everiss with 89 lb from peg 2, on small PVA ‘tea-bags’ of pellets with pellets on the hook, ahead of Rob Draisey with 83 lb from next to the winner, on peg 38.
Steve Scott was fourth with 71 lb from peg 36, Mark Smith fifth with 66 lb from peg 32, and Dave Fyfield with 60 lb from peg 6.
Using the circulation pump to move water around the lakes has contributed greatly to the success of sport in this hot spell, along with the sprinkler, which are turned on each evening and run all night to keep the fish healthy and keen to feed.
Matchman Mark Hathway was among those benefiting, landing 44 bream in his midweek pleasure session at peg 11, along with a bonus 10 lb common carp.
The Purley angler used a Hybrid Method feeder and dumbbells or double corn hook baits, a year on from his 168 lb match catch of 50 fish.
And a young angler called Henry Davies enjoyed his first fishing session, with his dad, Jonno, landing five bream in three hours and being impressed by their size.
Carp catches on the Old Lake continue to keep anglers entertained. New Specimen Carp Club Member Colin Jarvis landed seven carp to 19 lb 10 oz from around peg 12 in his first session, on Mainline Cell bottom baits in open water.
Kevin North, from Croydon, had five fish to 20 lb on a day session at peg 36 on boilies cast to the island margins.
Polish angler Kamil Maslach caught a mirror carp of 10 kg (22 lb) and a common of 4.5 kg (10 lb) from peg 20 on Mainline Pineapple & Banana boilies.
Tim Hardy had three carp topped by an 18 lb common from peg 6, on a pop-up and bottom bait in a snowman presentation.
And Andy Hall shared an overnighter with a couple of mates as they landed plenty of bream and carp to 16 lb on 18 mm bottom baits or snowman presentations over loosefed offerings.
