Old Lake Latest Catches week ending 16/2/20
There’s just one month left of the predator season on the Old Lake, and it can be a time when the biggest fish become more active, especially if conditions are right.
The two recent storms have put lots of colour in the water and boosted the level with mild rainwater, which could be enough to trigger a feeding spree.
The 18 anglers who took part in the Stoney and Friends charity Predator Day last Saturday were still able to catch a few pike and zander, despite the storm.
And Mike Holcombe’s recent 5 lb fish shows that even in less-than-ideal conditions of bright sunshine, fish can still be caught, Mike’s fish falling to a legered roach section.
One angler on the Predator Day fished for carp and landed one of 23 lb, along with a couple of tench. The lengthening days are often an important trigger to tench to start feeding, and even before winter is over it is possible to target them given favourable conditions.
