Old Lake Latest Catches week ending 31/3/19
The bream fishing on the Old Lake is just coming into its own, as Mark Hathway showed during a midweek pleasure session on peg 14, with 37 of them to 4 lb, along with some skimmers.
Mark was fishing Method feeder to the island with dumbbells on the hook, or 14.5-metre pole with groundbait and pellets, using 6 mm expander pellets on the hook.
The sixth in the series of Stevie Gardener midweek opens produced a winning weight of 73 lb, for Simon Ellis, ahead of Paul ‘Tommy’ Hiller on 68 lb, and Steve Sanders with 66 lb.
The Old Lake’s carp are becoming more catchable by the day, Claudiu Popa landing ten during his 24-hour visit, the biggest 17 lb.
Claudiu was fishing peg 2 and casting to showing fish with snowman presentations, made up of NashBait Crab and Krill bottom baits with Sticky Baits Pineapple & N’Butyric pop-ups, along with small PVA bags of whole and crumbed Mad Baits The Nutz boilies.
Also in action with the carp was lake regular Richard Urquhart, from Croydon, who landed five doubles, the biggest 15 lb, on an overnighter on Saturday, also on peg 2, casting single 15 mm Steamies bottom baits to the far side, with no free offerings.
