Old Lake Latest Catches week ending 30/12/18
Taking a boat out proved a good idea for fishing friends Matt Walker and Paul Kapaldi, from Sutton, as it enabled them to track down some feeding fish and make the most of the opportunity.
With temperatures in double figures when they were afloat on Saturday, they shared 11 chances, boating four carp, all of them doubles, the biggest 18 lb.
Successful bait was 15 mm Mainline Cell boilies over a scattering of free offerings.
And Gavin Campbell, from Woking, had a 14 lb carp from a peg in the 30s on the Long Bank.
The cooler nights that are forecast will make locating fish even more important to success, and a boat or a roving approach could be the best way to get some winter action.
Zander anglers are still keeping busy, but with smaller fish rather than the specimens that are in there to be caught.
Delicate presentations with smaller offerings and once again a mobile approach is considered the best way of finding some fish when it’s cold.
The fishery will be close on New Year’s Day (Tuesday), but will open again on Wednesday as things return to normal.
