Old Lake Latest Catches week ending 7/10/18
Young Alfie Swieton began his season in the same impressive way that he ended it, with a 9 lb zander, to get the new predator season off to a great start.
Fishing with his dad, Martin, who had a 5-pounder Alfie was fishing in the margins of peg 2 with the head half of a small roach.
Just a week ago, nine-year-old Alfie was top rod in the annual charity competition, with a catch of roach on a whip, a 13 lb carp down the edge and a 2 lb 8 oz perch.
He’s had plenty of success in past visits with his dad, including big carp, 20 carp in a day on Bonds, and last March a personal best 9 lb 8 oz zander from the pegs in the high numbers on the other side of the island.
Among other good catches of zander reported already this season was four fish to 7 lb before 2pm from a boat in the Jungle for Martin Chennell, from Guildford, on legered small sections of lamprey.
And the best of the carp catches reported this week was 12 fish the biggest a 17 lb 12 oz common, on an overnighter at peg 2 for Brian Mayne, from Redhill, who used 18 mm Mainline Cell boilies with white Toppers, over loose offerings.
