Old Lake Latest Catches week ending 10/6/18
The Old Lake’s bream are making the most of this spell of warm weather, and the fact that some of the carp are distracted by spawning, to get to anglers’ baits first.
Peter Sharp, from Crawley, landed 21 bream from peg 1, the biggest an impressive 7 lb, all on cage feeder and pellets, corn and casters.
Anna Preston, from Walton, was given an enjoyable introduction to fishing at Bury Hill by Specimen Carp Club member Paul Jeffery (see photos below).
She caught 21 bream to 4 lb, skimmers, roach and rudd from peg 11, fishing a quivertip rod and a maggot feeder with red maggots just a couple of rod lengths out to the right.
Anna hadn’t fished for a few years, but had “a fantastic day” in the “beautiful surroundings”.
And the Carshalton & District AS match from pegs 1 to 34 was won by Gary Sharpless with 50 lb 10 oz, made up of five bream, three carp and a tench on pole and 6-8 mm soft hookers over loosefed micro pellets, at peg 1.
Runner-up was Gary’s son, Mick, on peg 32 with 30 lb of bream and a few tench and skimmers on pole with corn and luncheon meat.
A few carp are still being caught. Jamie and Michael Oliver shared a catch of nine carp to 15 lb from pegs 14 and 15, on Mainline Essential Cell double 15 mm baits over scattered free offerings, half way to the island.
Bill Stroud, from Redhill, had carp of 21 lb 10 oz and 16 lb from peg 38, fishing close to the island with Carp Company Icelandic Red boilies and fluoro pop-ups.
Adrian Wood fished in the bay, at peg 50, and had five on an overnighter, the biggest a 17 lb mirror, all on 15 mm single Mainline Cell wafters over a few free offerings, catching best in the dark.
And Steve Snelling and a friend shared a catch of two mirror carp to 18 lb and eight tench to 5 lb, along with countless bream, fishing the Jungle from a boat.
