THIS WEEKS FISHING (IN BRIEF!)

Bonds Lake is known for its prolific sport and multiple catches of carp, but the 143 fish landed by one angler this week shows just how good the fishing can be.
In three visits, the angler had up to 44 fish per day on banded pellets, the biggest a low double.
A recent capture of a 36 lb mirror carp from Temple has been reported, while there was another ‘thirty’ in a brace with a 28, and also a brace of ‘twenties’.
The Old Lake produced one of its 30 lb commons, which share the water with all of the doubles and ‘twenties’.
And Alan Derbyshire won the Fishtales match on Milton Lake with 45 lb of crucians, along with a 4 lb 3 oz tench.
Temperatures look set to rise steadily this week from a wet and windy start, building to a warm and sunny weekend, with the arrival of the Full Moon on Friday, before values drop away again next week. Monday should start with some sunshine, but then strong south-westerly winds are likely to bring rain from mid-afternoon through the night and on and off on Tuesday, with around 16 degrees C on both days and the chance of some lightning on Tuesday. But then the weather should dry up on Wednesday and Thursday with 17 degrees, and then 19 on Friday with lighter winds, before a sunny 20 on Saturday and possibly 24 on Sunday with just an outside chance of a shower. Overnight values should stay in double figures, and winds should be constantly from the south west until Sunday night, when they look likely to turn around to north-easterlies and become stronger still, blowing the short spell of high pressure away and cooling things down to 17 degrees.

• The predator fishing season begins on October 1 and continues until March 14.

• Anglers are reminded that fishing on Temple and night fishing on the Old Lake is available exclusively to members of the Bury Hill Specimen Carp Club. Membership cards must be carried at all times when on the fishery, and be available to bailiffs when they carry out checks prior to the evening lock-up.

OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING

Trying to track down a 30 lb carp among all of the single-figure fish and ‘twenties’ can be a struggle, but John Botting managed it with a 30 lb 2 oz common.
Fishing peg 11 and casting towards the island, John tempted the fish on an A2 Baits Creamy Toffee pop-up.
Connor Cook fished the Old Lake for six carp to 19 lb from peg 14, using Mainline Cell baits over a bed of free offerings in open water.
And his fishing pal Chris King had an 18 lb fish from peg 15.

TEMPLE LAKE – CARP

Last month Benjamin Adams added to the growing number of ‘thirties’ landed this season with a 36 lb mirror (see photos below).
He was fishing peg 4 and casting between the two islands with an 18 mm Mainline Cell boilie and a solid PVA bag.

Also in action was Gavin Raines, who had a 30 lb 4 oz common and a 28 lb 3 oz mirror on a short session at peg 12.
Ray Harding, from Epsom, landed mirror carp of 27 lb 15 oz and 20 lb from peg 9 on Pineapple pop-ups, while his pal Mick Warren had an 18 lb 8 oz fish from peg 10.
And Mick Cooper, from Wallington, landed a 20 lb 8 oz common on his first trip, fishing peg 6 with a single 15 mm bottom bait and a PVA bag.

BONDS LAKE

Bonds regularly produces multiple catches of carp to double figures on a variety of methods, from pole to feeder and straight lead to waggler.

They say that you can’t have too much of a good thing, and an angler called Luke put it to the test when he had three sessions on Bonds and landed a total of 143 carp.
Fishing on Friday, Saturday and Monday, Luke had up to 44 fish per session, legering 8 mm banded pellets tight to the island while loosefeeding the same, his best fish being a low double.

MILTON LAKE

Milton Lake is the place to try for a catch of prime roach, using a waggler on a running line or pole just a short distance out, close to the pads, where they can be lined up with a little-and-often loosefeeding approach. And in the mild spells there are crucians, tench and bream to be caught, along with occasional carp.

Lake regular Alan Derbyshire was back in action again, but this time under match conditions, showing that his tactics work even when there are keepnets in the water.
His net of crucians and a 4 lb 3 oz tench with a couple of big roach gave him a win by over 10 lb in the Fishtales contest with 45 lb from peg 22, on pole and pellets over cupped in groundbait and pinkies.
And Richard Sullivan-Paul, from Kingston, had 40 crucians on a pleasure session at peg 1, along with six tench and a bream, on 13-metre pole and corn on the hook, feeding 6 mm halibut pellets.
