THIS WEEKS FISHING (IN BRIEF!)
Rough weather meant only the bravest anglers ventured out for a couple of days last week, but one who grabbed his chance during a window in the wild weather came up with the top prize.
New member Luke Luff landed Nemo at 43 lb 1 oz, just a couple of ounces short of a fishery best and the fish’s top weight for 18 months.
The Old Lake bream are also hungry, 64 lb winning the midweek match, and only one of the anglers had less than 20 lb.
Multiple carp catches are also on the cards, Old Lake regulars Kevin Oldcorn and Dave ‘Jonty’ Smith sharing a 20-fish haul for a total of over 280 lb.
Anyone who enjoys a go at match carping should put July 29 in their diary, for the annual 24-hour pairs contest, to coincide with the RideLondon cycling event on that Sunday, which closes roads to the fishery for much of that day.
And Milton Lake is still producing plenty of crucians and roach, a Surrey Fire Brigade contest being won with 42 lb on pole and pellets, while lake regular Alan Derbyshire had 25 crucians on a pleasure visit.
After a week of lower than usual temperatures for the time of year, there’s a welcome change for next week, as warm, dry and sunny weather takes hold and looks set to provide 20 degrees C or more every day, with little chance of rain. Only Monday is expected to be slightly cooler, at 18 degrees and a little overcast, but then there should be 20, 23, 21, 20 and 21 in the days that follow, before a little more cloud into the weekend, but still with good amounts of sunshine. Winds should start moderate to strong, falling away on Tuesday and Wednesday, but strengthening again on Thursday, when a few crackles of lightning are possible as pressure builds. They are likely to be still strong on Friday and into the weekend, always from a south-westerly or westerly direction, with the chance of a shower increasing on Sunday. Overnight values should stay in double figures, reaching 13 degrees by Friday and the weekend, before falling off straight after.
• The predator fishing season begins on October 1 and continues until March 14.
• Anglers are reminded that fishing on Temple and night fishing on the Old Lake is available exclusively to members of the Bury Hill Specimen Carp Club. Membership cards must be carried at all times when on the fishery, and be available to bailiffs when they carry out checks prior to the evening lock-up.
OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING
With the date set for the annual 24-hour carp pairs contest, competitors will be encouraged by catches such as the 20 fish that Kevin Oldcorn and his carping buddy Dave ‘Jonty’ Smith shared on their first joint visit of the year.
Their catch of over 280 lb of fish included mirror carp of 18 lb 8 oz and 17 lb 3 oz for Jonty, and a 17 lb 4 oz common for Kevin (see photos below)..
Tactics were 20 mm Mainline Peaches & Cream boilies with PVA bags, cast into open water and the island margins from peg 31 and 32.
Also in action was Paul Bridger, who had seven carp to 19 lb from peg 13 on an overnighter, on 18 mm wafters over plenty of loose offerings.
A small club match on the Front Bank in midweek produced a 64 lb 12 oz winning weight of bream and skimmers for John S., from peg 28, and all but one of the nine anglers fishing had over 20 lb.
A date has been set for this summer’s 24-hour pairs carp match, fished by 12 teams, on Saturday and Sunday, July 29 and 30.
The draw will take place at 5pm on the Saturday, with fishing from 6pm until 6pm on the Sunday.
Entry costs £100 per pair, payable on booking, and if 12 teams take part, the winners will collect £300, with £150 for second and £100 for third. Optional pools of £25 will be available.

TEMPLE LAKE – CARP
New member Luke Luff has started his Temple lake campaign in style with the biggest fish that Bury Hill has to offer, Nemo at 43 lb 1 oz (see photos).
Luke, from Horsham, came down in the afternoon for an overnighter after there was a slight improvement in the weather of strong winds and rain, opting to fish peg 13.
He cast a krill pop-up with a small PVA bag of crumbed boilies into open water directly in front of him to tempt the personal best fish, which has only been reported twice this year.
At the start of March, another new member, Sam Doherty, landed the fish at exactly 40 lb on his first day, on a Sticky Baits The Krill boilie in open water. And then in April another new member, Anthony Parker, caught Nemo at 41 lb on his first session on the lake.
Back in late-December 2015, Martin Goddard banked Nemo at 43 lb 3 oz on only his second visit to the lake to set a new fishery record. This latest capture was witnessed by fishery manager Chris Wilmott, who helped with the weighing.
Conor Cook followed a successful Old Lake session with a visit to Temple and added a 26 lb 6 oz “stunning mirror” on Monday afternoon
And last week we reported how Ray Harding, from Epsom, landed mirror carp of 27 lb 15 oz and 20 lb from peg 9 on Nash Citruz pop-ups, while his pal Mick Warren had an 18 lb 8 oz fish from peg 10 on a Mainline Cell snowman cast to the pads.
They have sent in pictures of their fish, which are shown.
BONDS LAKE
Bonds regularly produces multiple catches of carp to double figures on a variety of methods, from pole to feeder and straight lead to waggler.
Last week we reported how an angler called Luke landed a total of 143 carp in three visits, banking up to 44 fish to 8 lb per session, on 8 mm banded Dynamite Robin Red pellets legered tight to the island while loosefeeding the same.
He came back for two more goes in his week off, ending with a total of 223 carp for well over 1,000 lb

MILTON LAKE
Milton Lake is the place to try for a catch of prime roach, using a waggler on a running line or pole just a short distance out, close to the pads, where they can be lined up with a little-and-often loosefeeding approach. And in the mild spells there are crucians, tench and bream to be caught, along with occasional carp.
A Surrey Fire brigade contest produced a winning weight of 42 lb 7 oz of crucians and roach for Dave Fielding, fishing peg 21 with 6-metre pole and 4 mm pellets.
Runner-up was Alan Fleming with 25 lb 6 oz from peg 18 on waggler and maggots against the pads, ahead of John Sherlock with 18 lb 15 oz of crucians and tench from peg 20 on meat.
Milton Lake regular Alan Derbyshire had a successful pleasure session at peg 2, landing 25 crucians on 13-metre pole and single maggot or pieces of worm over cupped in groundbait, worms and maggots, but he didn’t get any response on meat.
