THIS WEEKS FISHING (IN BRIEF!)

An impressive £1,900 was raised for charity in the 53-strong Faulkner’s match last Sunday, which also produced some big bags of bream.
Lee Perry won it with 87 lb 7 oz, holding off former England international Stevie Gardener in third.
It’s a great time for multiple catches on Bonds, the best reported haul this week being 14 fish for John Bradshaw, the biggest 12 lb.
And the Old Lake is also producing good numbers of carp, Damien Chaplinski landing eight to 21 lb in his session.
Anglers on Temple are holding their breath for the big autumn feed-up, but Mick Warren managed a 20 lb 9 oz common.
A similar week to last week is in prospect in terms of the weather, with around 16 or 17 degrees C all this week, but largely dry with more sunshine and lighter winds. Monday should be a mixture of cloud and sunshine with 16 degrees, and similar on Tuesday, before a cloudier Wednesday but slightly warmer at 17 and a shower or two possible on Thursday afternoon, but still 17, before a very sunny Friday and 17, and getting warmer and brighter by a degree each day into the weekend. Winds look like being light-to-moderate north-westerlies for Monday and Tuesday, before a switch to stronger south-westerlies on Wednesday through till Friday, and then south-easterlies take hold through the weekend and into next week, strengthening on Sunday evening. Overnight temperatures could again dip just into single figures at the start of the week and on Thursday night, but be more like 12 degrees for Wednesday into Thursday and at the weekend.

• The predator fishing season begins this Sunday, October 1 and continues until March 14.

• Anyone who fancies being part of the night syndicate of anglers who are allowed to fish Temple and the Old Lake after dark for a £50 joining fee will be interested to hear that there are places available. To apply, get in touch with the office on 01306 883621.

• Anglers are reminded that fishing on Temple and night fishing on the Old Lake is available exclusively to members of the Bury Hill Specimen Carp Club. Membership cards must be carried at all times when on the fishery, and be available to bailiffs when they carry out checks prior to the evening lock-up.

OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING

It was a successful day for fish numbers and for fundraising in last Sunday’s Faulkner’s charity match, which raised the impressive sum of £1,900 for good causes.
Lee Perry finished top of the 53 anglers who took part, his 87 lb 7 oz of bream taken from peg 74 on feeder.
Mark Edwards had 58 lb 13 oz from peg 1, and Stevie Gardener was third from peg 72 with 54 lb 10 oz.
Just like the bream, the Old Lake carp also have a good appetite with autumn arriving this week, as Damien Chaplinski, from Hackney, showed with his eight carp to 21 lb.
Damien was on peg 2, and all of his fish were mirrors except the biggest, which was a common, falling for 20 mm Mainline Salty Squid boilies over free offerings of Cell.

TEMPLE LAKE – CARP

There are high hopes for a busy autumn among anglers on Temple, with a cooling of the temperature as the summer ends.
Mick Warren kept his hand in with a 20 lb 9 oz common from peg 10, and there is a good chance of one of the lake’s heavyweights out in the near future.

Bonds regularly produces multiple catches of carp to double figures on a variety of methods, from pole to feeder and straight lead to waggler.

John Bradshaw enjoyed plenty of action on his recent visit, landing 14 carp to 12 lb from peg 10.
John, from Ewell, fished a Method feeder and 6 mm Strawberry dumbbells tight to the island or in the margins, feeding heavily with pellets.

MILTON LAKE

Milton Lake is the place to try for a catch of prime roach, using a waggler on a running line or pole just a short distance out, close to the pads, where they can be lined up with a little-and-often loosefeeding approach. And in the mild spells there are crucians, tench and bream to be caught, along with occasional carp.

Colin Sheer had roach to 1 lb 5 oz along with three tench and two crucians, on float fished maggots at peg 26.
