 THIS WEEKS FISHING (IN BRIEF!)

The temperatures may be sliding, but the water is still warm enough for multiple catches of carp and zander.
Two anglers shared 19 carp on Bonds Lake on Saturday, including four doubles, being kept busy by fish still eager to feed.
The Old Lake’s zander are also hungry, lake regular Alan Pickering taking his tally to 33 for the three weeks since the season began, including six in his most recent session.
Temple Lake provided Leyton Bartley with an impressive common carp of 31 lb 2 oz, while there was a six-carp catch on the Old Lake for Gary Shrimpton, the biggest a 14 lb 3 oz common.
High pressure means dry, sunny weather but some chilly nights this week, with the first run of grass frosts this autumn. Both Sunday night and Monday night are expected to dip to 5 degrees C, recovering to 8 for a few days, but then back to 5 for Saturday night again. The temperatures should make it to 13 degrees on Tuesday and Wednesday, but Monday is expected to get no higher than 10, though it is likely to be the sunniest day of the week, and it’s back down to 11 for Saturday. The Full Moon next Saturday is behind the change, which will at least mean a very slim chance of rain up until then. A chilly north-westerly wind on Monday should be replaced by south-westerlies from Tuesday, moderate for most of the week, becoming more westerly into the weekend. But there could be a further tumble of temperatures from Sunday into the week after, with single figures likely by day and the first proper frost on Sunday night into Monday week, at 2 degrees.

• The predator fishing season began on October 1 and continues until March 14.

• Anglers are reminded that fishing on Temple and night fishing on the Old Lake is available exclusively to members of the Bury Hill Specimen Carp Club. Membership cards must be carried at all times when on the fishery, and be available to bailiffs when they carry out checks prior to the evening lock-up.

OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING

After getting 13 runs in under three hours on his previous visit and landing ten zander, Alan Pickering was back for more and had ten runs and six fish this time.
Fishing just a four-hour session, at peg 38, he had fish to 7 lb 6 oz, taking his tally since October 1 to 33 zander, more than the whole of last season.
He noticed that runs come in quick succession, often while netting or unhooking another fish, between quiet spells, suggesting that the fish are either switching on and off together or moving through as a shoal.
Nine-year-old Daniel Ward was also successful on the zander front, catching his first ever one (see photo) on his first predator trip with his dad, James, who said: “He went home very happy!”

Angling writer and photographer Graeme Pullen is putting together a video from his recent visit, when he had 14 runs and landed nine zander to between 8 lb and 9 lb using Starlite night lights on his floats.

And on the carp front, Gary Shrimpton landed six from peg 2, the biggest a 14 lb 3 oz common, all on 16 mm and 20 mm NashBait Crab and Krill boilies over loose offerings in the margins and across.

TEMPLE LAKE – CARP

Another Temple ‘thirty’ added to what has been a good October for the lake for heavyweight fish.
The latest, an impressive common carp of 31 lb 2 oz (see photo below), fell to Leyton Bartley, who was fishing peg 1 with single Key Cray boilies over a few freebies.

BONDS LAKE

Bonds regularly produces multiple catches of carp to double figures on a variety of methods, from pole to feeder and straight lead to waggler.

Martin and eight-year-old Alfie Swieton, from Feltham, shared a great catch of 19 carp on Saturday, including three doubles to 11 lb.
The pair fished peg 4 with 6 mm Dynamite Robin Red pellets, either float fished or legered with a straight bomb, firing free offerings over the top with a catapult.

MILTON LAKE

Milton Lake is the place to try for a catch of prime roach, using a waggler on a running line or pole just a short distance out, close to the pads, where they can be lined up with a little-and-often loosefeeding approach. And in the mild spells there are crucians, tench and bream to be caught, along with occasional carp.
