THIS WEEK’S FISHING! (in brief)
Fishing is continuing at Bury Hill as anglers take the opportunity to enjoy themselves while self-isolating at the same time.
Temple Lake regular David McCallum decided to indulge in a bit of “carping quarantine” on Temple, and had a 30 lb 14 oz mirror to keep him company, along with two smaller fish.
Carp anglers on the Old Lake have had fish to 20 lb 7 oz, while on the boats there was a catch of three to 21 lb in the Jungle.
The Old Lake bream fed for the final match in the Steve Gardener series, 68 lb winning it for Geoff Vallance.
Milton Lake is producing numbers of tench and crucians, feeder providing four tench and then float seven crucians for one angler.
And Bonds Lake continues to provide plenty of action, a catch of six carp to 11 lb on legered meat cubes among those reported.
This time of year and into April and May are the prime feeding weeks for fish ending their period of inactivity over the cold months of winter.
It’s a time that many anglers look forward to, especially as the days are now longer than the nights, and the sun has real warmth to it.
The clocks going forward next Sunday morning will mean longer evenings, and the forecast for this week is one of very pleasant weather, due to high pressure, albeit with some chilly nights.
After a warm and sunny Sunday, there should be dawn-to-dusk sunshine again on Monday, and a high of 10 degrees C, though falling to 1 degree overnight again into Tuesday, which should provided the same dawn-to-dusk sunshine and 11, but 1 again overnight into Wednesday of more cloudless blue skies and 10, but falling to minus 1 overnight into Thursday into another cloudless day of 10, staying at 2 overnight into Friday and 9 with some cloud among the sunshine, with 2 overnight into a Saturday of the same and 9, staying at 2 overnight again into a Sunday of 8 with 2 into Monday week as the picture begins to change to more cloudy and showery weather with milder nights. Winds should start this week as moderate easterlies on Monday, becoming more south-easterly on Tuesday and Wednesday, then lighter and more north-easterly on Thursday, swinging round to westerlies on Friday but still light, then moderate north-westerlies on Saturday, and stronger north-easterlies on Sunday, with the winds due to stay from the east for the foreseeable future. So, classic high pressure weather of bright, sunny days but cool nights and light-to-moderate easterly winds, but staying dry for this week.

OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING
The midweek series of matches ended in style, with a 68 lb winning catch for Geoff Vallance.
Geoff drew peg 75, behind the island, and used feeder or pole for his catch, ahead of next peg Fabian Arpad, at 74, with 57 lb 6 oz.
Ian Chatfield was third with 46 lb 12 oz, from peg 32, and Steve Gardener fourth with 41 lb 8 oz, from peg 35.
Train-travelling Chris Bean was back for another visit, and this time peg 2 provided him with a 20 lb 7 oz common, again on a single 18 mm CC Moore Pacific Tuna boilie.
While on the boats, two anglers fishing in the Jungle shared a catch of three carp to 21 lb.
John Graham, from Epsom, also fished peg 2, and had four carp to 13 lb, two commons and two mirrors, on 15 mm Mainline Banoffee baits.
TEMPLE LAKE – CARP
David McCallum had a rewarding visit, landing three carp, the biggest a 30 lb 14 oz common, along with an attractive fully scaled stockie.
He said: “In these uncertain times, it was a relief to feel safe by the lake, and credit to the fishery and its staff, as you guys are taking every measure to keep a lid on this, so keep up the good work, which will in turn allow us all to continue to enjoy our angling.”
And Ollie Hopkins, from Carshalton, had a 12 lb 9 oz fully scaled stockie, on a single 14 mm Mainline Cell pop-up.

BONDS LAKE
The carp are catchable in good numbers, on feeder or straight lead to the island margins or in open water on a pellet waggler, or down the edge on a pole.
And there are also roach and perch to be caught on pole or waggler, especially now that the carp don’t pounce on any bait in the water.
Mike Tipson, from Chislehurst, had six carp, all from 6-11 lb, on Wednesday, on legered cubes of meat.
MILTON LAKE
Milton Lake is the place to head for if you want tench, bream, crucians and specimen roach, along with a chance of a bonus carp, either on waggler with a running line, or pole close in or up against the lily pads.
Fish can often be lined up with a little-and-often loosefeeding approach, using small baits and very small balls of groundbait, and are particularly active when the weather is mild.
Mark Lambert, from Bromley, had a successful day at peg 2 on Saturday, starting on Method feeder and 8 mm wafters and corn for four tench to 5 lb, and then switching to float under his rod top for seven crucians to 3 lb on bread punch.
