With the drop in temperatures has come the expected feeding spell, mirroring the autumn feed-up that makes October a prime month for big fish on Temple.
The cooler-than-usual August encouraged five ‘thirties’ to fall to anglers’ baits, among them The Ghost, for Mark Ford.
The weight of 34 lb 12 oz is similar to its last reported capture in April at 35 lb, prior to spawning, it has been up as high as 40 lb 10 oz, in May of last year, though it was back to 35 lb by last October.
Mark was fishing peg 13 with double 15 mm Richworth S-Core boilies, with a mesh bag of crushed and whole boilies, casting a metre out from the left-hand margins and getting the run at 8.30am on Sunday morning.
Also in action was Ray Harding, adding to his impressive tally of fish with a 32 lb 6 oz common from peg 9, on Mainline Cell with a Milky Toffee pop-up in a snowman, over loosefed bottom baits.
Terry Baker had Two Tone at 32 lb 5 oz from peg 1, along with the Long Common at 27 lb 15 oz, while sharing a weekend session with John Mason.
John was also in action, landing a 30 lb 14 oz mirror from peg 15, and all of the fish came on new Mainline boilies that they were testing.
And there is an unconfirmed report of Joe Holdsworth landing a 31 lb 5 oz fish, along with others of 27 lb 8 oz and 24 lb.
Jon Botting also had success, landing mirror carp of 28 lb and 23 lb from peg 6 on A2 Baits boilies.
Andy Hall got in on the action with a 26 lb 10 oz mirror from peg 3, on hardened hook baits over sparse loosefeed, losing a second fish.
And bailiff Clive Elson added three fish, at 22 lb 8 oz, 21 lb 2 oz and 20 lb 6 oz, from peg 9 on JHBaits Nuti-B boilies.
