PRO-FISH ANGLING COURSES

Struggling with the basics, whether shotting a float, casting far enough or which baits to use and when? Maybe you want to help introduce someone to fishing for a birthday or Christmas present?

Pro Fish Angling Courses are open to all ages and give a great insight into the basics of coarse fishing. Friendly and professional help will ensure you learn everything you need to get started or to improve your angling skills and put more fish in the net.

Although you're welcome to bring your own, tackle is provided, so it's easy to book up and have a go even if you've never fished before. Many satisfied customers have had their first taste of fishing through these relaxed, fun courses.

Bait is provided, and the cost of a day ticket and EA licences is included in the price, so all you need to bring is yourself. Experienced coaches such as Eric Bailey, John McCarthy and Chris Maltby are all on hand to offer personal help and get your fishing career started the right way.

SOME TYPICAL QUESTIONS!

What should I bring?
Subject to weather, we recommend that you bring a selection of waterproof, layered clothing and suitable footwear, a comfortable chair (if you have one) and maybe a camera to capture that unforgettable moment when you catch your first fish. An umbrella can also be useful. We will provide you with everything else: top quality tackle, a full selection of baits and of course expert tuition. You might also wish to bring a flask and sandwiches, although our café is open every day serving hot and cold food and drinks.

Who will teach us?
Our resident tutors have fished Bury Hill for many years and have an in-depth knowledge of all our waters, the fish and their habits as well as the most productive methods and baits that are working at the time. They will provide you with individual friendly expert advice throughout your day, based on their many years of angling experience.

What does a Pro-Fish day consist off?
Your day will start at the stated time with everyone meeting at the boathouse where you can purchase a breakfast and hot drink if required beforehand. You will then be given a short talk explaining what to expect from your day, which will be supported by leaflets explaining preferred tackle and rigs as well as tips on handling fish. You will then move off to the swims that have been reserved for you, which will have been selected the previous day and probably pre-baited in order to give you the very best chance of catching.

Once on the bank, you will be briefed on the general tackle being used i.e. rods, reels and line plus end tackle options. Once you have tackled up, you will be allotted your own swim for the day and the tutor will come round in turn to show you the best area to fish and which baits to use. Indeed, we will often start the course using different baits and methods in order to find the most productive for the day.

The tutor will be on hand at all times throughout the day, so you are free to ask as many questions as you like whilst you are waiting for the action to start.

All fish caught will be unhooked and returned immediately when you will be instructed in the safe handling, unhooking and returning of all fish caught. Any fish caught can be weighed and photographed and there will be ample opportunity for you to have photographs taken with the fish you catch.

Will I catch?
We are always being asked 'what are the chances of catching'? A difficult question even for a good angler, but basically the answer is simple: there are no guarantees. However, all our lakes hold huge heads of fish to specimen size, our tutors are very experienced anglers who have fished Bury Hill for many years, so you are in capable hands, fishing one of the country's top fisheries. Whilst we cannot guarantee that anyone will catch on the day, we would normally expect a good percentage of anglers to catch or at least have the chance of catching, giving everyone the chance to see the quality of our fishing first hand and to learn how to safely handle the fish. However, our prime objective is to ensure that you have an enjoyable day and gain a good basic understanding of how to fish, whilst also learning how to handle and return fish safely - that we can guarantee!

EA Rod Licenses
All anglers over the age of 12 require a rod license by law. All persons attending a Pro-Fish Angling Course who require a licence will be covered by a blanket rod licence, which we have arranged with the Environment Agency.

  FISHERY REPORTS
Great fishing on all lakes! - 17 August 2008
Desoite some pretty grim weather this week, the fishing on all lakes has been superb with plenty of bream still showing on the Old Lake along with good numbers of carp. Whilst Temple has thrown up another thirty and plenty of big twenties. Picture shows Daniel Bourke with his 29lb mirror caught from the Old Lake.
