This latest Browning Youth Masters qualifier turned out to be a very close contest with just 20 ounces separating the top 4 anglers. As expected bream and skimmers dominated this affair with the feeder at long range the way to go for most. Gavin Miller, Billy Hayward and Bradley Gibbons were into fish early on to set the match up for an exciting day, the odd lost fish was crucial and played an important part in the final outcome as only ounces made all the difference. As is the case with many matches at Bury Hill there was an fascinating twist right at the latter stages of the event. Gavin Miller on peg 10 lifted into a big fish with 25 minutes still on the clock however after a long battle, Gavin needed 14 minutes of the 15 allocated after the final whistle but unfortunately his catch turned out to be a 7lbs 4oz Zander which was hooked in the tail. With predator fish not counting, did the time spent playing the fish cost Gavin dearly? First to weigh in was Harrison White on peg 8 whom after missing plenty of bites put two bream on the scales for 4lbs 5oz. Next up was Gavin Miller who landed 9 bream for 21lbs 2oz all caught on the tip after switching his baits from maggot to pellet throughout the match. Billy Hayward lost a couple of bream at the net and when the scales settled on 20lbs 14oz you could see the disappoinment in his eyes as he was just 4ozs off the lead. Daniel Blackwell and Liam Smith again went close to Gavin's weight but with both on 19lbs 14oz they just fell short. With one more to weigh in the scales moved up to Bradley Gibbons on peg 16 and with 7 bream in the net his 16lbs 10oz was good enough for fifth place leaving Gavin Miller aged 14 from Middlesex as the winner and qualifier for the Browning Masters final in a few weeks time.
