Temple Blitz's its 100th thirty this year! - 30 10 2009

Temple’s 100th thirty is blitz as a dozen more thirties are banked!

A recent run of thirties at Bury Hill’s Temple Lake has seen the magical 100th thirty caught in 2009 come and go, with numbers now standing at an impressive 111 thirties for the year to date (see attached schedule).

Temple regular James Hiscock was the lucky angler to catch the 100th thirty of the year with a stunning big mirror weighing 35lb 8oz, which James caught in driving rain and which was the largest of five fish during his 48 hour session. Fishing corner swim 15, James caught all of his fish on Cell boilies and pva bags, which he fished to the margins and open water. James other fish during his session were mirrors weighing 27lbs 15oz, 24lbs 2oz and 23lbs 10oz and a common of 19lbs 2oz.

Another angler to catch a big thirty this week was Temple regular Karl Jenson. Fishing swim 12, Karl caught on popped up corn, which he fished to the island margin.

Fishing similar tactics also brought success for regular Robin Ellis who bagged a brace of big commons over the weekend weighing 31lb 8oz and 31lb, which followed an earlier big mirror weighing 33lb which Robin caught during an earlier session. Fishing hot peg 15, Robin fished his popped up corn to the island margins catching over a few loose boilies.

Following the capture of a 31lb 12oz common last week, Ray Harding returned to Temple this week catching another pristine common weighing 32lb 6oz. Ray fished peg 4 catching his fish from the margins on Icelandic Red boilies which he tipped with corn.

Another angler to bag a thirty on Temple this week was Andrew Kelly who caught a lovely 32lb mirror. Fishing swim 8, Andrew caught the big mirror, which equalled his PB on a homemade boilie.

Temple regular Rob Savage also scored another thirty catching a cracking mirror, which weighed 30lb 8oz. Fishing road bank swim peg 4, Rob caught on corn which he fished over pellet.

With plenty of autumn action on Temple it was no surprise to see Temple guru Sean Howard get in on the action again this week following the capture of a 31lb mirror last week. Catching on both popped up corn and a new experimental boilie, Sean landed two fish this weekend, a 30lb mirror known as ‘The Thief’ and another mirror weighing 25lb 2oz. The thirty came from swim 12 whilst the smaller mirror was caught from from swim 15.

Bagging a brace of thirties last week, Temple Regular Rob O'Neill caught mirrors weighing 31lb 4oz and 31lb within minutes of each other. Rob had both of his fish on popped up corn from close to the island from swim 4.

Temple Information

For those who do not know, Temple Lake was constructed in 2002 specifically for specimen carp anglers. Four acres in size, the lake holds just short of 100 large carp which average 29lb, there are only three or four fish sub twenty pound and approximately 40 thirties which includes a small number of fish nudging the forty pound mark. These fish are all GENUINE English fish, which were sourced and hand picked from both the King George reservoir, Claremont Lake (which is where the original Savay fish came from) and Bury Hill’s Old Lake. A mix of commons and mirrors, which include all variants from leathers to fully scaled, Temple’s fish are genuinely regarded as being some of the prettiest fish anywhere. All of Temple’s fish carry electronic tags allowing easy identification.

Run strictly on a membership basis where anglers must prove that they have experience in handling large fish, Temple can be a challenging water, although despite this membership numbers have been restricted since the lake opened in 2004 such is the demand for membership.

Top angler on Temple for the past couple of years has been regular Sean Howard who has caught 54 Temple fish this year which included 17 thirties and the largest fish of the year so far, a stunning mirror which weighed 38lb 7oz.
