Record numbers 30's and 20's as carp go on feeding frenzy! - 20 10 2011
As water temperatures start to drop, carp anglers would normally expect carp catches to start to slow, but that is far from what is happening with BUMPER catches being reported from both Temple and the Old Lake. In fact, such is the intensity of action over the past few days that we have seen record numbers of thirties reported off Temple with a number of anglers reporting two or more thirties per session whilst anglers fishing the Old Lake have been catching more twenties than at any other time this year with one angler bagging 11 twenties in just 12 hours.
Temple regular Craig Hess had an amazing session on Temple yesterday catching a new PB common known as Jelly, which weighed 31lb, which was quickly followed by a stonking 38lb 2oz mirror.
Fishing peg 8, Craig had been after the Jelly common for many seasons catching on Cell boilies.
Another angler to do well this week was Gus Steel who landing not one, but two new PB’s in the space of just a few days, a 35lb 12oz mirror and a 36lb 2oz mirror. Still glowing from setting a new personal best with his 35 lb 12 oz mirror, which he caught from peg 15, Gus returned to the same swim banking the 36 lb 2 oz mirror. Fishing frozen 18mm Cell boilies, it was the island margins, which accounted for his thirty-five catching the thirty-six from the mid-water, to round off a truly memorable few days at the lake.
Yet another angler to get amongst the action this week was Ray Harding who just can’t stop catching presently with his recent 24-hour session producing two quality fish, a 31lbs 8oz mirror and a stunning 31lbs 12oz common. Both fish came from peg 9 on a chod rig using pineapple pop ups.
Simon Longhurst also had a brace of thirties this week, with both fish coming within an hour after moving swims during a 36-hour session.
Simon was scanning the water and spotted some fish showing so he moved swims to peg 14 and bagged a 31 lb 9 oz mirror and a 31 lb 8 oz common, with both fish falling to Cell hookbaits.
Regular Rob Savage also had a very memorable brace, starting with a mirror of 21 lb 8 oz, which was followed by a common weighing 32 lb 2 oz. Both fell to a single Mainline Cell boilies from peg 9.
Action on the Old Lake has also been fast and furious with anglers reporting bumper numbers of fish with more twenties than at any other time this year. Lewis Game booked in for a late overnighter midweek and following a very hectic 12 hours when he caught 18 fish, a good session by any standards. But when you realize that 11 fish were over 20lbs with the best reaching 24lbs 2oz, you start to appreciate just what an amazing catch Lewis managed. Lewis caught all his fish on Sticky Baits Vortex 18mm boilies.
Sebastien Bivolaru fished peg 74 last Sunday and was rewarded with a Mirror Carp of 25lbs 4oz which came on a 18mm Cell boilie tipped with a piece of fake yellow corn. Bury Hill carp tutor Chris Maltby took a couple of pupils for a carp lesson on the front bank early week and both anglers got in amongst the fish with a 22lbs mirror topping the list.
