Big Crucian makes Tony's day!

Tony Merrett from Ewell in Surrey had a day to remember during a one to one tuition lesson with Bury Hill’s Tackle Shop Manager Russ Evans on the Old Lake last Sunday 27th July. Celebrating his 50th birthday recently, Tony’s wife Hazel booked her husband in for an advanced course with Russ to brush up on his pole technique and feeding skills on the Old Lake. Two hours into the session after putting a dozen nice bream on the bank, Tony hooked into a fish of a lifetime when he caught a superb looking 3lbs 8oz Crucian Carp which was followed a few minutes later by another good specimen of 2lbs 5oz. Russ said “I was delighted for Tony to catch such a memorable fish on a tuition day albeit the fish being 7oz bigger than my own PB” he smiled, “Tony’s previous best was just over a pound so he smashed that out of sight and with a total of 31 bream to 5lb as well it was a fantastic day in very hot and flat clam conditions” concluded Russ.

The fish fell to 6mm soft hooker pellets over a bed of 3mm feed pellet catapulted out between bites and all were taken on the pole at 13 metres from peg 44 in between the pads on the long bank.
