Huge bags of Tench & Bream as spring arrives! - 02 03 2009
The Old Lake is seeing huge bags of tench and bream to well over 200lb reported as spring finally arrives. Local angler Hayden Woods was the first angler to bag up when he visited the Old Lake last Thursday catching over 20 tench to 6lb and 20 bream to over 5lb. Fishing peg 29, Haydon fished a 12m pole cupping in Swim Stim green 3mm pellet regularly fishing double maggot on the hook. A fish a chuck at one point, Hayden caught tench to 6lb which included the odd golden tench and bream to 5lb for a total weight close to 200lb.
Given the exceptional fishing for the time of year, Haydon returned on Sunday and fished the same swim using similar tactics to land a further 26 tench to 6lb 8oz and 15 odd bream to 5lb for what must be over 200lb said Haydon. Other anglers who have also been fishing this area have also been catch tench and bream with numerous fish over 5lb reported.
