Following a welcome turnaround in the weather over the past few days, both Temple and the Old Lake kicked into life this week producing not one, but 4 thirties with unconfirmed reports of a fifth big fish also being caught.
Leading the field was regular Craig Hess who had a well-deserved active spell, catching two Temple thirties in the space of just a few hours on Tuesday, mirrors weighing 34lb 2oz and 32lb 6oz. Fishing swim 13, Craig caught both his fish during the day on Pulse Dumbell hook baits, which he fished in conjunction with small PVA bags of pellet to the island channel. An update to the above, Craig has just reported catching a 26lb 14oz common and 25lb mirror this morning.
Both of Craig’s fish are at a record weight, carrying tag number 187219, Craig’s 34lb 2oz mirror was last caught weighing 33lb in September whilst his 32lb 6oz fish carrying tag number 186891 was last caught in October 2006 weighing 30lb.
Sean Howard was another angler to catch a Temple thirty, a stunning mirror weighing 31lb 4oz which Sean caught from the island margins. Sean fished swim 12 catching on a glugged popped up corn combined with a pva bag filled with spicy hemp. Carrying tag number 183888, Sean’s mirror is also at a record weight having last been scanned in June 2006 weighing 27lb 8oz.
Not to be outdone, the Old Lake also produced its first thirty of the year, a stunning 33lb 4oz common, which we believe is at a new record weight. The lucky capture was Mark Peace who caught his new PB on a Dynamite pop up fished tight to the island from swim 75.
