Bury Hill Fisheries hosts successful Golden Balls Fishing
Charity 2011 Weekend Event raising £4,017 for Cancer Research UK
Thanks go to David de Vere for kindly donating this splendid venue as one of three for the Golden Balls Fishing Charity 2011 Weekends, and to his staff for helping the event run smoothly and increasing the fundraising for Cancer Research UK by £4,017 – a tremendous achievement.
Anglers were keen to start fishing and, with the draw having taken place, the whistle blew early at 10.30am on the Saturday morning.
Despite poor angling conditions, several anglers caught some nice bream, but they didn’t count and as night drew in the first carp was landed, a beautiful 14lb 4oz mirror, by Brian Krishnan on swim 16 at 8pm.
Frank Reid started on his winning streak landing several nice commons, using an old favourite – chocolate pop-ups. Steve Ball started closing the gap with what turned out to be the heaviest fish, an 18lb common.
By around 10am Sunday morning there was only 4oz weight between the 2nd and 3rd places – could this change? Unfortunately not and as the whistle blew at 12noon on Sunday, the result were:
1st Place Frank Reid 43lb 1oz
winning a set of coveted Reuben Heaton (www.reubenheaton.co.uk) scales engraved with Golden Balls Winner 2011 and a Drive & Survive holiday with Wally’s Waterways (www.wallyswaterways.com)
2nd Place Steve Ball 38lb 12oz
winning a Nash Ultra Lite Nomad Chair (www.nashtackle.co.uk)
3rd Place Brian Krishnan 38lb 8oz
winning Dynamite Baits donation (www.dynamitebaits.com)
Heaviest Fish Steve Ball 18lb common
winning One Year’s membership to Bury Hill’s Specimen Carp Club plus 48 hour ticket plus Russ Evans Carp & Predator DVDs.

Although Frank Reid was the top fundraiser, Ben Sandilands won the draw from the Top 6 Fundraisers for a Drive & Survive at Sky Lakes (www.skylakefisheries.co.uk). We would like to thank Emma, Frank’s secretary, for her hard work which helped boost Frank’s total to a brilliant £1,784 !
The list of people to thank is infinite, but we would especially like to say how much we appreciate the kindness of not only Bury Hill Fisheries for their most welcome donations of some spectacular swim prizes from Gardner Tackle, Etang de Cherpont Carp Fishery, Tackle Fanatics, Sticky Baits, Cotswold Baits, Carp Company, but also Stoney & Friends (www.stoneyandfriends.co.uk) who also kindly provided swim prizes for this event.
Stoney & Friends support MacMillan Cancer. Golden Balls Fishing Charity supports Cancer Research UK. At the end of the day, we’re all there to raise money to combat this terrible disease and we thank everyone for their kindness, support and generosity, but especially the anglers who participated and made this such an enjoyable event.
