Carp fishing picks up in time for Easter!
The past week or so has seen a steady increase in the number of carp being caught on both the Old Lake and Temple Lake, with both lakes now throwing up a few decent fish which included a couple of chunky mid thirties on Temple.
Craig Hess was the angler to prize the first fish of the year from Temple, one of the big Italians weighing 27lb 6oz. Fishing swim 14 on the back bank, Craig positioned his baits on the island shelf catching on 12mm Active 8 boilies which he tipped with corn filling his PVA bag with small pellet and chopped boilies. Following this capture, Craig returned two days later to bag another well known Temple fish, this time a stunning 35lb mirror known as “Robin Hood” owing to the arrow scale pattern on its tail. This time Craig fished swim 13 catching on similar tactics and the same bait to his earlier session.
Matt Howe was the next angler to bag a Temple thirty, this time a stunning big mirror weighing a hefty 34lb 1oz, which Matt caught on Sunday. Matt initially started his session off on the Old Lake, but decided to switch to Temple Lake Sunday afternoon slotting into peg 13 on the back bank. Fishing two small 10mm boilies on a hair tight to the reeds by the island, Matt put out a few free offerings catching his new PB and first Temple carp just 30 minutes after moving.
Whilst Temple has at last seen a few fish caught, the Old Lake has started to produce some really big catches with a couple of anglers finding non-stop action despite the weather bagging over 20 carp each.
Local Dorking boy Kevin Duffell had a brilliant couple of sessions on the Old Lake catching over 20 fish each time to 23lb. Fishing peg 24, Kevin caught most of his fish from the margins on big bunches of maggot which he fished in conjunction with PVA bags filled with pellet.
Another angler to do well was Joe Levy who bagged 23 fish during his 48 hour Old Lake session. Fishing peg 29, Joe from North Cheam fished 15mm Fusion boilies over a bed of Fusion and 10mm Cell boilies baiting an open water area in front of him. Including a good number of upper doubles, Joe’s best fish was a stunning 22lb 8oz mirror.
Despite the wet weather, expect to see further catches from both lakes over the coming days.
