Carp Catches Go CRAZY! - 06 09 2011

Carp Catches Go CRAZY!
Following a couple of quiet weeks for the Bury Hill carpers, the last few days has seen a flurry of activity with carp going on a feeding frenzy on both Temple and the Old Lake. With both lakes throwing up thirties and good numbers of twenties, anglers on the Old Lake were in for an extra surprise with most anglers reporting multi bags of up to a dozen fish.

Old Lake Catches
Looking at the Old Lake first, keen angler Joss Mitchison, aged 13 from Oxshott in Surrey had a day he won’t forget on the Old Lake Monday when with the help from his friend, put the net under a cracking 30lbs 2oz common carp from peg 2 in the margins. Joss was already having a good day landing 6 other carp ranging from 8lbs to 19lbs including a 12lb ghost carp. Using frozen Pulse boilies plus a few offerings crushed up in a pva bag, Joss caught all of his fish from 8.30am to when the big un arrived at 5.15pm. Using one rod baited in the margins towards the jungle trees and the other in mid water, Joss had 4 of his carp on his margin rod proving you don’t have to cast too far to find a few feeding fish. We are sure when Joss goes back to school from the summer holiday break, when asked by his teacher to write a summary about what he got up to on his school holiday’s, his day on peg 2 will be the highlight of his article for sure, well done! 10 out of 10

Family trio Steve, James and Richard Tidman had a brilliant session on the Old Lake this weekend bagging 21 carp between them. Fishing pegs 71-73, the trio all fished 18mm Cell boilies to the island margins catching mainly mid to upper doubles with Steve topping his catch off with a 22lb common whilst Richard took top spot bagging a stunning 25lb 7oz mirror.

Phil Harvey is a regular visitor to Bury Hill all year round and last weekend on a carp day session on the Old Lake was rewarded with this 21lbs Mirror Carp caught along the long bank. Fishing a Cell boilie over a few looses offerings Phil accompanied by his brother Marc slid the net under this cracking looking fish to round off another good day at OBH.

Another angler to do well on the Old Lake was Scott Holt who managed three carp from peg 74 during his short session, which included a 20lb 6oz common. Scott also caught on Cell boilies, which he fished to the island margins.

Josh Catford enjoyed a busy night of action on the Old Lake with his Dad as they shared 13 carp together on a wet and windy Monday night. Fishing pegs 2 and 3 near the jungle area, Josh put the net under 10 carp up to 19lbs fishing open water on cell boilies tipped with yellow foam on a size 8 Kurv Shank Korda hook and SafeZone leader set up. Josh said “After every fish caught I catapulted out 10 boilies scattered around my hook baits and that was enough to keep the fish coming for most of the night before pulling my rods in so I could get some sleep, my Dad had three doubles as well plus we did lose the odd fish so the overall count could have been a lot higher but I am not complaining”.

Temple Lake Catches
Anglers fishing Temple Lake were also in for a surprise this weekend as the fish also came on the feed with a number of anglers reporting catches of 4 and 5 fish each. Temple regular Gez Schifano had a cracking session over the weekend bagging four fish, which included a very pretty 31lb 8oz mirror. Fishing peg 9, Gez’s four fish were all mirrors weighing 31lb 8oz, 26lb 8oz, 24lb 8oz and 23lb 8oz which he caught on Cell boilies from close to the pads.

Following the capture of Temple’s infamous Robin Hood last week which weighed in at a hefty 35lb 12oz, Dave Winters returned with brother Dale this weekend to try their luck again with David catching a brace of mirrors weighing 32lb and 25lb 8oz whilst brother Dale weighed in an impressive 29lb 2oz common. Fishing pegs 4 and 5, the brothers caught all their fish on 18mm Cell boilies, which they fished to the island margins.
