Carp anglers report record catches of thirties and twenties! - 11 05 2010

May is always a good month for the carpers with Temple Lake in particular normally fishing exceptionally well. True to tradition, the first few days of May this year have started off with a BANG with 12 thirties and numerous twenties already reported from Temple this week which brings the total number of thirties caught in the last six weeks or so to an impressive 26. In turn, the Old Lake has also seen some excellent sport over the past week or so with a good run of twenties being included in some big multi bags.

Leading the field on Temple this week was Lewis Gane who banked a brace of thirties, which included one of Temples most sort after residents, The Ghost weighing an impressive 37lb 11oz as well as another well-known mirror, which weighed 30lb 6oz. Fishing swim 4 along the road bank, Lewis caught all his fish on Cell boilies, which he fished tight to the island margins with pva bags filled with broken offerings. Lewis’s other fish was a 26lb 5oz mirror.

Following a very productive session early week, which produced a 32lb 8oz common for Vernon Ellis along with two big twenties, a 28lb 7oz common and 27lb 6oz mirror. Vernon returned a couple of days later to catch another two thirties, a much sort after 35lb 9oz mirror and a 31lb mirror as well as a smaller 22lb 8oz mirror. Fishing swim 12 on both occasions, Vernon caught all his fish on Plastic Fantastic corn, which he fished to both the open water and island margins catching the last 30lb mirror on a homemade boilie, which he fished to the same area.

Another angler making a name for himself on Temple this year having recently caught two stunning BIG mirrors weighing 36lb and 36lb 11oz, is Craig Pearman who added a further three BIG Temple fish to his already impressive tally for the year this week, a 34lb 4oz Italian, and mirrors weighing 33lb 4oz and 29lb 11oz. Fishing swim 13 on the back bank, Craig caught the 34 and 29 on a hi-vis multi coloured pop up which he fished tight to the island margins catching the 33 on plastic corn also from the island margins.

Another angler to bag a thirty in what is turning out to be a spectacular week was Michael Smith who on his first visit to Temple netted a stunning 34lb common.

With more Temple thirties under his belt than any other angler, Temple guru Sean Howard also got amongst the thirties this week catching his first two thirties of the year, a 32lb 11oz common and 31lb 9oz mirror known as “The Thief” as well as two smaller fish, a 28lb 10oz common and stunning 20lb 10oz Ghost. Fishing swim 1 along the road bank, Sean caught from both the island margins and open water on CC Moores N-Gage 15mm boilies, which he fished over a few free offerings with the exception of the ghost, which he caught on glugged corn from swim 14.

Adding to his recently caught 34lb 8oz mirror, Dave Povey managed aother two thirties this week, a stunning common weighing 30lb 8oz and a BIG 35lb 8oz mirror both of which he caught from the island margins off swim 4. Fishing Cell boilies and a small PVA bag filled with pellet and free offerings, this brings David’s number of Temple thirties to 3 this year.

The Old Lake has also been fishing extremely well with plenty of twenties showing in multi bags of up to fifteen fish. Gavin Campbell had a very busy session at the weekend catching 14 fish which included three twenties, a 23lb 4oz common and mirrors weighing 22lb 8oz and 20lb 3oz. Fishing peg 1, Gavin caught on Banana Nut Crunch boilies over pellet from the far bank reeds.

Chris Moxon also had a good day catching a 27lb mirror from peg 3 on a Cell boilie whilst Keith Sheeky also from Watford managed 4 fish, the best a 20lb mirror, which he also caught on Cell baits.

Another angler to get amongst the twenties on the Old Lake was Dale Clark who managed three twenties as part of his 10 fish haul. Fishing swim 11, Dale caught on 20mm Icelandic Red baits which we fished over 3kg of loose boilies to the open water catching a 22lb mirror and a brace of commons weighing 21lb.

With yet more thirties being caught as I write this news update expect to see further catches over the coming days and week as the weather improves.
