Bream go 'Breamnannas' as water temperatures creep into double figures! - 16 04 2008
With water temperatures finally creeping up into double figures, the fishing on the Old Lake has at last kicked in big time with a number of ton-up bags reported in the last few days including a huge 200lb plus bag of bream to one angler.
The lucky lad to break the double-ton was Ockley angler, Michael Head who fished an 11m pole from peg 33 on the long bank catching bream in the 3lb to 5lb bracket steadily all day and at time one a chuck on 6mm Dynamite Marine Halibut pellets whilst feeding a mix of Swim Stim Green groundbait and maggot in a cup. Catching from the off, Michael landed 65 bream and topped the day off with a superb 3lb 12oz crucian which was a personal best. Michael’s previous best catch from Bury Hill was 49 bream from the same area this time last year.
Another angler to bag up over the last few days was our own Russ Evans (Bury Hill’s tackle shop manager) who was practising long distance waggler fishing on the front bank for a forthcoming article in a leading mag. Russ fished two sessions, one on Sunday when he landed 19 bream and two big tench for close to 100lb and the other Wednesday catching 16 bream and one tench bagging fish to over 5lb. Russ fished a new style loaded waggler at 40mts, catching both days on hair rigged pellet over loose fed 8mm pellet which Russ fed over a wide area to keep the huge shoal feeding.
With water temperatures set to increase further over the coming days, expect more big bags to be reported from both banks.
