Carp start to show in good numbers as weather improves!
As with the general fishing, the carp fishing has also seen a marked improvement this week with both Temple and the Old Lake producing some excellent catches which includes a number of thirties from Temple.
Following a very tough few months on Temple as we headed out of winter, the last week or so has seen a steady run of fish reported which included a number of thirties topped by Craig Pearman’s cracking 36lb mirror which he caught this week. Fishing road bank swim 6, Craig fished a 5 Star Baits hi-vis multi coloured pop up to the island margins catching his first Temple thirty and the biggest fish so far this year around midday.
Another angler to do well on Temple was Matt Howe who caught a stunning big mirror weighing a hefty 34lb 1oz. Matt initially started his session off on the Old Lake, but decided to switch to Temple Lake Sunday afternoon slotting into peg 13 on the back bank. Fishing two small 10mm boilies on a hair tight to the reeds by the island, Matt put out a few free offerings catching his new PB and first Temple carp just 30 minutes after moving.
Steve White, a hardened Temple angler on his first visit since rejoining also did well catching a stunning 32lb 12oz common. Fishing peg 1, Steve fished a Mainline Milky Toffee pop up to the island margins unconventionally over a bed of spod mix.
Yet another angler to catch a thirty was Guy Penn who was fishing his first session on Temple. Again fishing swim 7 on the road bank Guy fished a Tasty Baits 14mm single boilie to the island margins catching a lovely 31lb mirror.
With recent catches also including a run of twenties, Ross Dickens from Morden Surrey caught his first Temple carp, a 23lb 4oz mirror, which he caught from swim 2 on a maize pop up.
The Old Lake has also seen its fair share of action this week, which included a run of bigger fish to mid twenties as well as some nice fish caught from the jungle.
Joe Levy was one such angler bagging 23 fish during his 48-hour Old Lake session. Fishing peg 29, Joe from North Cheam fished 15mm Fusion boilies over a bed of Fusion and 10mm Cell boilies baiting an open water area in front of him. Including a good number of upper doubles, Joe’s best fish was a stunning 22lb 8oz mirror.
Another couple of anglers to do well on the Old Lake were Ben Froud and Adam Porter. Fishing pegs 16 and 17, Ben managed three fish during his session, which included a 21lb 8oz mirror and 17lb 8oz leather. Fishing just 3m off the point of the island, Ben caught all his fish on Cell boilies, which he fished over hemp and pellet. Adam also found the bigger fish active catching a 25lb common as part of his bag catching on Icelandic Red baits which he also fished over a bed of pellet and hemp.
Grabbing a quick hours fishing during his lunch break, Lee Bacon might not have caught the biggest fish of the week, but he certainly caught one of the prettiest, a stunning 13lb 8oz Old Lake mirror which he caught on an Icelandic Red boilie.
Renowned for our boat fishing which often produces some big catches of doubles in the early spring and summer, with the odd twenty and even thirty possible. Again the recent improvement in the weather has seen the fish start to stir in the jungle area with anglers starting to catch good numbers of carp along with a few decent tench to 8lb.
One angler who had a great day fishing the jungle from a boat was Shane Chapman. Fishing float fished pellet, Shane caught 7 fish to 16lb in a hectic few hours (7lb, 3x10lb, 11lb, 12lb and a 16lb mirror).
With temperatures set to rise further and with a good spell of prolonged weather forecast over the next week or so, expect to see the fishing improve further and some big fish reported.
