Believe it or not, Craig Hess has just banked his 4th Temple thirty in just over a week, this time a stunning 31lb 4oz mirror. Craig slipped into his favourite swim, peg number 13 Sunday night catching his fish just as darkness was drawing in. As with Craig’s other thirties, Craig caught on a Pulse dumbbell fished with a small pva bag filled with chopped boilies and pellet, which he fished to the island margins. Carrying tag number 182730, this fish was stocked from Claremont Lake in December 2005 weighing just 24lb 4oz and has been caught twice at just over 30lb, although 31lb 4oz is a new record weight for the fish.
With a record number of thirties now being caught from Temple, the weekend saw two unlucky anglers catch three “wanna be thirties”, Sean Howard who caught two, a 29lb 12oz common and 29lb 4oz mirror and Peter Champion who caught a 29lb 3oz mirror. Indeed the average weight of fish being caught from Temple this year is currently over 28lb.
The other angler to catch a thirty today and a new PB into the bargain was young Conor Bates. Fishing the Old Lake, Conor caught a cracking Old Lake Leather weighing 30lb 1oz, which we believe is another new thirty. Fishing peg 2, Conor fished a Spicy Shrimp & Prawn boilie over free offerings of 8mm UFO pellets which he fished close to the overhanging bushes off the jungle point. Conor went on to catch a 22lb 12oz common and a couple of upper doubles in a hectic few hours.
With increasing water temperatures and better weather forecast, expect to see more thirties banked over the coming days and weeks.
