50 Temple thirties in just 14 weeks!

Following last years bumper catches on Temple Lake which saw 111 thirties caught in what turned out to be a record year. 2010 has also seen some equally blistering sport despite the worst winter/spring ever, with 50 thirties being caught in just 14 weeks, which has included numerous record fish and to top it all, Temples first forty, the much sort after Ghost weighing 40lb exactly.

With sport at an all time high, the past couple of weeks or so has seen 15 thirties banked with a number of anglers including a brace of thirties in their catches.

One of the first anglers to sample the great fishing on Temple was Ross Dickens who managed a cracking brace of thirties during his midweek session catching a 32lb 10oz mirror and 32lb 6oz common. Fishing swim 8, Ross fished popped up fake maize tight to the island margins.

Another Temple regular who tasted success was Roy Carslake who has been enjoying a few day only sessions on Temple this past week or so. During his recent visit Roy caught a pretty brace of mirrors weighing 34lb and 25lb 2oz. Fishing swim 4, Roy caught both his fish on a homemade boilie, which he fished to the island margins.

Ray Harding was another regular to do well grabbing a last minute 48-hour session. Fishing peg 8 Ray caught two cracking fish, both mirrors weighing 32lbs 10oz and 23lbs 2oz on Cell boilies, which he fished to the open water.

Fishing his first ever session on Temple, Dean Webb also got amongst the action catching a lovely brace of mint commons during his midweek 48 hour session which weighed 32lb 12oz and 24lb 2oz. Fishing swim 5, Dean caught on Carp Company Icelandic red 14mm caviar and cranberry boilies which he fished over a bed of 50 freebies and 1kg of Sticky Baits Bloodworm pellet to the left of the island close to the reed bed.

Another angler to catch on his first ever session on Temple was Ben Froud who also managed his first ever thirty, a cracking 30lb 6oz mirror. Opting to fish swim 4, Ben fished Carp Company OPM juicy fruits 16mm boilies over sticky baits bloodworm pellet, with his fish coming from the island margins. During his 48 hour session, Ben had 3 pick ups from 3 different spots but had hook pulls on the first two takes before slipping the net under his first ever 30 pounder following his third take of the session. 

Another Temple regular to get amongst the Big Fish action was Dean Jones who not only caught the biggest fish of the week, a stunning 37lb 4oz mirror, but who also managed a brace of thirties in his three fish haul, the thirty seven, a 30lb 4oz mirror and 25lb 5oz common. Fishing his favourite swim 11 on the back bank, Dean caught all his fish on popped up 12mm Cell boilies over a bed of pellet which he fished tight to the lilies on the left hand side of the island margins.

With an increasing number of fish coming to surface baits, Neal Hoare managed to nick a stunning 34lb 2oz mirror from the top which fell to a black foam imitation bait which he fished just on the surface using an adjustable zig rig.

Bagging four fish during his hectic four fish 72 hour session was Paul Wyatt, which also included a brace of stunning thirties, a mirror weighing 35lb and a common weighing 34lb 12oz. Paul also caught mirrors weighing 25lb 3oz and 23lb 6oz. Fishing peg 11, Paul fished a homemade boilie to the island margins with all his fish coming both early and late in the day.

Fishing with Paul was Craig Gillard who also managed a cracking thirty during his session, this time a 33lb 14oz mirror. Fishing next to Paul on swim 10, Craig also fished a homemade boilie to the island margins catching his fish late in the day.

Two more anglers who scored on Temple this week were Bury Hill bailiffs Ed Mason and Lee Bacon who grabbed a quick midweek overnight session catching six fish between them. Fishing swim 14, Ed was the first to get amongst the action catching a stunning MINT 32lb 10oz common which he caught on a white chocolate pop up which he fished just 1” off the bottom close to the island margins. Ed’s other two fish both came off the top during two separate short sessions, a 35lb 8oz mirror which he caught on floating crust off swim 15 and a 27lb 12oz common known as 2 Tone which also fell to a floating crust bait being caught off swim 14.

Opting to fish swim 12, Lee Bacon also managed three fish during his session, which was topped by a lovely 30lb 10oz mirror. Fishing a variety of baits, Lee caught his big mirror off the top on floating crust whilst his 25lb 12oz common fell to a Cell boilie, which he fished tight to the island over a few whole and crushed Cell boilies. Lee’s smallest fish of the session, a 22lb mirror was caught on popped up double red and yellow corn, which he also fished to the island margins.

Whilst Temple has been producing plenty of Big Fish action, the Old Lake has also been throwing up some good catches topped by Mark Savage and his brothers Andrew Wooding’s 675lb haul. Fishing a 5 day session on pegs 1 and 2 on the Old Lake, Mark and Andrew fished Active 8 boilies over a few kilos of loose fed baits which they targeted to the mid water areas. Fishing simple free running rigs, the pair caught 42 carp which included a new PB for Andrew in the shape of a 20lb 3oz mirror. With the majority of the fish weighing around the 16lb mark, Mark said that all the fish were in cracking condition and a mix of commons and mirrors.
