The latest fish out of Temple was caught by local man Mark Savage who caught ‘The Ghost’ weighing 35lb 4oz, which has almost certainly now spawned. Fishing swim 13 and using a 2’ section of leadcore and very slack lines, Mark wanted to try a different bait and fished a black pepper with squid boilie with mixed pellets in a very small pva bag, which was smaller than the size of a golf ball catching from the mid water. Mark commented, that the fish was in immaculate condition giving a very strong hard fight.
Following the capture of his first thirty last week, a cracking mirror weighing 34lb 2oz, Scott Maslen could not wait to return and was quickly rewarded with his second Temple thirty, a very pretty common weighing 30lb 8oz. Fishing swim 4, Scott fished similar tactics to the week before, maize and balanced popped up corn to the channel catching on a semi fixed in-line lead to a 6” soft link and size 7 barbless claw hook. Carrying tag number 183830, Scott’s common is a new thirty having previously been caught at 27lb 6oz.
Regular Dean Jones was another angler to find the thirties on Temple, indeed a pair of them weighing 32lb 6oz and 30lb 4oz. Slotting into what is now the fancied back bank pegs, swim 13, Dean fished popped up corn to the left hand margin over free offerings catching his first thirty and a new PB into the bargain. Dean’s common carries tag number 143009 and is another new thirty having previously been caught at 29lb 12oz.
Grabbing a short overnight session, Roozbeth Yazdanian was rewarded with a lovely 30lb 12oz mirror, his first Temple thirty. Carrying tag number 138656, Roozbeth’s fish was another new thirty having previously been caught at 29lb 14oz.
Whilst Temple understandably is getting all the press, the Old Lake has also being producing some great catches over the past week or so with a number of fish to sub thirty being caught. Temple regular Craig Hess made the most of the weather earlier this week catching ten fish off the surface topped by a cracking 28lb 6oz mirror. Roaming the top bay, Craig caught on floaters fished in between the pads with most of his fish weighing mid to upper doubles. Another angler to do well on the Old Lake was Steve Salridge who bagged 6 carp to 20lb, Steve fished new Cell baits with Terry Hearn pop ups to the island margins. Lastly, the jungle is also worth a mention as a number of boat anglers are finding rod bending action from the massive numbers of carp present. Paul Marshall fished the far end reed bed catching 5 carp to 27lb 4oz on soft pellet fished under a loaded waggler. Paul also caught two tench weighing 8lb 20z and 7lb 12oz to end a great day.
