I took a rest from carp fishing during my holiday to try my luck with targeting Roach and Tench. No difficulties with the roach, as there was a fish a chuck when using maggots. I even managed to catch a roach on a single 20mm boilie. Is this rare???
However, I was not so lucky in the Tench fishing. No tench for the whole week. Has anyone any fav baits, rigs, methods and fish holding spots in Bury Hill or a typical lake???

Any help appreciated,

I've always found Tench harder to catch than Carp even, and not just at Bury Hill but pretty much everywhere. I would try simple float tactics using meat as bait by the lillies or in the jungle.

Thanks alot,

Will try this out on my next session.....One problem I find with using meat to fish is that it keeps coming off the hook on cast. Any solutions?????

On my first session at bury hill, the anglers on the next 3 pegs from 12-15 were all tench fishing on the bottom. What baits would they be using?? Are Tench spotted on the surface here???

From watching fishing programmes, I have heard things like, " The way to spot tench is a fizzing on the surface of the water" but have recently heard that crucian carp produce fizzing when they feed???? How could you tell the location of tench??

Cheers,

Hi Carpikeangler, I think this where I could help you out. I love using meat, not just at Bury hill either. I have found recently that Middy have produced a hair rig in which a wire coil has been attached to it for the meat to be screwed onto. I absolutely love them. It keeps the meat on every time.

It also allows the hook to sit directly behind the meat, and I have caught so many more fish with this rig. It's definately worth a go.

Thanks for that mate,

Do you just thread it onto the coils then??

Yeah that's right, just twist the meat cube onto it and it always stays on.
