I am very keen to fish at Bury Hill this year, can anyone recommend a lake that is a good lake to start with, I tend to fish the pole, and the feeder. ;)

Hello Lee,
Milton Lake would be a good start with its good head of mixed species, big roach and perch plus crucians and tench. There are also plenty of small carp and a few lumps as well. At this time of the year casters and maggs work well plus lobworms, small hooks but when the warmer months arrive step it up a little. Pole in the margins works very well at dead depth.

Look forward to seeing you at Bury this year.

Russ,

Would I have to book or do I just turn up and fish.

Lee,

Just turn up to the on site tackle shop which currently opens at 7.30am (winter times) buy your ticket and away you go. The shop is fully kitted out with bait and tackle should you need it as well.

However if you were going to book a punt on the Old Lake then I would suggest you book in first.

Milton Lake is a superbly diverse lake, i love using the float and generally use sweetcorn, casters , and worm.
I really enjoy Milton and have promised myself far more fishing this year.

I agree Mattb, Milton is a brilliant lake at all times of the season, I have had some nice fish recently. Perch Roach and the odd nice carp even when it has been cold.

I caught what appeared to be a very young juvenile Zander, i have pic on my mobile so hopefully i can paste it on, however it isnt a Ruff/Perch etc it surprised me as i wouldnt of thought of catching one in Milton, how did it get there?

Mattb it was probably a Zander as I have caught them myself in matches using maggots, just before Christmas I had two on the trot about 4 inches long. They get through the pipe system that connects all the lakes. One of nearly 8lbs was caught in a Premier Open qualifier last season and also Zander have been caught in Bonds. They are not in great numbers and cannot be fished for as is the case in the Old Lake.

Thanks for the conformation Rob, i was pleasently surprised to catch one so small and its my first Zander haha.
Perch will be my target this month (jan/feb) so with any luck i may catch a pb my best so far is a 2lb 11oz.
