WATER TEMPERATURES

Despite a slightly wetter week, water temperatures still managed to increase slightly to 13.1 degree’s whilst oxygen levels stayed constant at around 30%. Outlook for the week ahead is again looking pretty good with temperatures staying around the early teens.

THIS WEEKS FISHING!

Despite the generally colder weather and the odd shower, a very good week for catches on all lakes with plenty of fish showing to both bank and boat anglers. On the carp front, we have seen another two thirties from Temple Lake this weekend along with a few twenties and a cracking 32lb from the Old Lake as well as good numbers of mid to upper doubles and the odd twenty. The general fishing on the Old Lake has also been excellent with lots of pleasure and match bags to 100lb with one match weight of 130lb. Whilst the bream are tending to dominate the catches, the tench are also showing in good numbers with quality roach, rudd and hybrids also showing.

The two smaller lakes, Bonds and Milton have also fished well with nets to 70lb being reported again from both lakes. Whilst it is mainly carp showing on Bonds, anglers have been seeing good mixed bags of tench and crucian on Milton as well as plenty of roach, rudd and perch.

OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING

Despite a slightly wetter week, the fishing has been excellent with some really great catches reported which has included carp to thirty pounds (see carp catches below) and 130lb nets of tench and bream with some quality roach and hybrids also showing.

With both the shallow, mid and deeper water pegs all producing loads of fish, the mid water areas seem to be producing the bigger bags as was demonstrated this week with record match weights reported. Boat anglers have also found plenty of action from the jungle with good numbers of tench showing along with the odd carp and bream.

Tactics remain much the same as previous weeks with the pole, feeder and float all working on the day with maggot, caster, worm and pellet catching particularly well. Larger baits such as corn and soft pellet are also taking the bigger fish so it is worth switching baits occasionally if you are looking to land the odd lump!

This weeks catches

Plenty of good catches to report this week in addition to the great weights reported in the two-day festival.

Regular Keith Hampson had another great days fishing catching bream to 5lb and tench to 4lb 8oz bagging a near 60lb. Keith fished peg 15 fishing a waggler 4 rods out catching on maggot. Another angler to catch a 60lb bag was Bradley Gibbons who fished peg 30. Fishing a 11.5m pole, Bradley bagged 15 or so bream and tench to 5lb which he caught on double red maggot feeding Swim Stim green pellets.

Despite a bit of rain on Saturday, Mark Whitham also had a good day catching 9 bream and 3 tench for a good 30/35lb bag. Mark fished peg 29 catching on a small Drennan feeder with red and white maggot which he fished over Swim Stim pellet 3 rods out after changing over from a waggler.

OLD BURY HILL & TEMPLE LAKE - CARP

Another great week for the carpers with three more thirties reported from Temple along with some great twenties and a stunning 32lb mirror reported from the Old Lake.

With the shallow water swims clearly seeing most of the action on Temple, the majority of the fish have been coming from the margins areas to both bottom and popped up baits, over little amounts of feed. Whilst baits remain very varied with all good boilies working as well as popped up baits and glugged corn, “thinking out of the box” is important on Temple and small broken baits and bait combinations such as a small pop up tipped with glugged corn are working. Also look for signs of fish moving putting a bait on them can often lead to a quick take.

The Old Lake also saw some great multi catches reported this week topped by the second thirty of the year, a cracking 32lb mirror which came from peg 2 as well as a number of twenties.

Whilst the fish remain well spread, the mid and shallow water areas and margins both seem to be producing fish. Whilst all good quality baits will catch, Icelandic Red, Fusion, KG1 and Cell boilies are all worth a go as are some of the new Cotswold baits and the new Terry Hearn Red Fish boilies and Dynamites Spicy Tuna & Sweet Chilli boilies. Fake corn and pop ups are also working well.

This weeks catches

With water temperatures on the increase, the Old Lake burst into life this week producing the second thirty of the year along with a good number of twenties. Ed Mason was the lucky angler to catch a thirty from the Old Lake, a stunning 32lb mirror which was part of a 6 fish haul. Fishing peg 3, Ed caught on an 18mm Icelandic Red boilie which he fished with a 15mm Super Stench boilie as a Snowman rig. Ed fished the far bank and fed cruched boilies in a pva bag.

Fishing peg 70, James Kelly had a great session landing three commons, the best a stunning fish weighing 28lb 10oz. James fished a homemade boilie over pellet close the island margins.  Jame’s brother Andrew also did well on the next peg 69 catching 7 carp, which included a brace of twenties, both mirrors weighing 22lb 6oz and 21lb 4oz. Andrew also fished homemade boilies over pellet to the island margins. Another angler to catch round the back of the island was Matt who caught 3 fish, the best a 25lb 8oz mirror which fell to a Pineapple boilie fished over pellet tight to the island. Joe Levy was another angler to do well on the Old Lake catching 8 carp, all doubles and a 24lb 2oz common. Joe fished a Mainline Fusion 15mm boilie to the point of the island from peg 37. Another angler to find plenty of action this week was Mason Everiss who caught 12 fish to 17lb. Fishing peg 66, Mason fished Prawn boilies and plastic corn to the island.

Turning to Temple Lake, Robert Tyrone Collander caught ‘Italian Two’ weighing 32lb from swim 5. Fishing his baits to the island margins, Robert caught on a Shellfish boilie. Temple regular Sean Howard also kept his run of big fish going catching a 31lb 12oz common from swim 10. Not surprisingly, Sean caught on glugged corn, which he popped up. Following his three fish catch last week, Stuart Mountjoy returned to bag another three Temple beauties which again included a thirty. All mirrors, Stuart caught fish weighing 31lb 8oz, 28lb 4oz and 21lb 10oz, which were all caught on 10mm Tutti Frutti boilies which he fished over a bed of hemp.

Other anglers to catch on Temple were Martin Sontag who caught a brace of mirrors weighing 27lb 8oz and 23lb 8oz. Fishing peg 6, Martin fished four pieces of popped up corn together with a homemade 20mm boilie catching from the margins. Another angler to catch was David Povey who caught a 24lb 8oz mirror from swim 10, David fished glugged corn over pellet also catching from the margins.

BONDS LAKE

Bonds fished well again this week with a number of anglers reporting bags to 80lb. Regarding tactics, both float and feeder are working with smaller baits such as maggot also catching well.

This weeks catches

West Ewell AC had a reasonable match last week for the conditions, Steve Woods won the day with 30lb 6oz of carp taken on maggot feeder from peg 4 whilst John Poulton was second with 27lb which he caught on feeder and corn.

MILTON LAKE

With mixed bags to 100lb reported in the week, Milton saw a lot more tench and crucian caught this week although the catches also included quality roach, rudd and perch. The best of the action has again been coming to pole and feeder tactics although float tactics are also working with maggot, caster and worm all catching, although pellet, paste and corn are also starting to take fish.

This weeks catches

Harrow School AC saw some good weights reported during their match which was won by John Cook with 71lb 12oz of carp and tench. John fished peg 24 and caught on an open end groundbait feeder catching on pellet and corn. Second was Kevin Wrigglesworth  with 38lb 2oz. Fishing peg 22, Kevin opted for the pole catching on pellet. Third was Dave Dorrsett with 26lb 4oz which he caught on a groundbait feeder from peg 26 on soft pellet.
