WATER TEMPERATURES
A bit of a mixed week, although plenty of sun has helped water temperatures creep back up to 18.6 degree’s whilst oxygen levels remains pretty consistent at around 30%.
Outlook for the week ahead also looks a lot better with just the odd shower and temperatures set to return to the early twenties.
THIS WEEKS FISHING!
A vast improvement on the previous week which saw some appalling weather, however the sunny conditions coupled with a couple of degree’s increase in water temperature saw all lakes generally fishing a lot better.
On the carp front, both the Old Lake and Temple Lake saw thirties reported this week along with a good number of twenties whilst the general fishing has also been pretty good with large bags of bream reported from the Old Lake with boat anglers also reporting some good catches of tench, carp and bream from the jungle.
The two smaller lakes also received some good reports this week with mixed bags of tench, crucian and silver fish showing on Milton whilst Bonds saw good nets of small carp reported.
OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING
With water temperatures on the rise, the fishing on the Old Lake this week has seen a great improvement over previous weeks, which were affected by the cold wet weather. Whilst the bream have tended to dominate this weeks catches, good numbers of tench have also been reported with all banks fishing pretty well for the time of year. Pole, float and feeder tactics are again taking the fish with most baits catching including large pellets which are working particularly well.
Boat anglers have also seen some good sport with large bags of tench, bream and carp being reported from the jungle with float fished large pellets to the margins being the top bait.
This weeks catches
Philip Gibson from Rochester Kent had a blinding session Friday catching 37 bream and 2 tench for well over 150lb from peg 28. Fishing a feeder, Philip caught all his fish on 8mm pellet, which he fished in conjunction with a Halibut groundbait in an open feeder catching tench and bream to over 7lb.
OLD BURY HILL & TEMPLE LAKE – CARP
A much better week for the carpers with both the Old Lake and Temple Lake producing a thirty this week as well as a few twenties with the Old Lake also seeing some good multi catches reported.
On Temple it was again the back bank which saw most of the action with the middle swims seemingly being the most productive with fish being caught from both the margins and open water. Popped up “glugged corn” still appears to be the most consistent bait, although boilies are also catching a few fish.
Turning to the Old Lake, this also fished pretty well this week with all banks producing a few fish, however it was the shallower water areas that fished particularly well with a number of multi bags reported. Icelandic Red boilies are still taking a lot of beating although all good quality baits will catch with Fusion, KG1 and Cell boilies all worth a try as are the new Cotswold baits and the new Terry Hearn Red Fish boilies and Dynamites Spicy Tuna & Sweet Chilli boilies. The odd fish is also coming out on fake corn and pop ups as anglers start to imitate their success from Temple Lake.
This weeks catches
James Kelly grabbed quick session on Temple in the week landing a 31lb 10oz mirror, which he caught on popped up corn close to the island from peg 13.
Chris Knight also managed two mirrors in the week weighing 25lb 10oz and 22lb 8oz. Chris fished popped up corn to the lilies from swim 11 catching using slack lines.
Turning to the Old Lake, John Fortuna landed a cracking 31lb common from peg 32. Fishing boilies to the open water, this was a new PB for John.
Paul Benefield also had a good session on the Old Lake catching 7 fish to 25lb. Fishing Icelandic Red boilies, Paul fished peg 38 catching his fish close to the island margins. Mark Savage also managed 9 fish during his weekender, although nothing huge with 20lb being about the best, Mark caught all of his fish on Scopex boilies which he fished to the open water from peg 18.
BONDS LAKE
As with all lakes, Bonds bounced back into form this week with a number of anglers reporting bags of carp to well over 100lb, although 50/60lb was more the norm.
With all methods accounting for a few fish, pole and float remain the most successful methods with feeder tactics also working with pellet over pellet catching well with maggot, soft pellet and corn also scoring.
This weeks catches
Tim Harrison had a great day catching 46 carp to 7lb for a good ton up haul. Fishing 6mm pellet over pellet on a short pole, Tim caught up in the water with a lot of his fish taking on the drop.
MILTON LAKE
With all areas fishing well, Milton saw some excellent catches this week, which included a couple of ton up hauls of tench and crucian. With all areas fishing pretty well, the margins appear to be fishing the best with both pole and float tactics both working well. Best baits seem to be large 10mm soft pellet over small pellet, although maggot, caster, worm and corn are also catching.
This weeks catches
John Taylor had a good days sport when he fished peg 4 catching 17 tench and 14 crucian along with some good sized roach for close to 100lb. John fished a loaded waggler close to the reeds catching all his fish just on bottom.
