WATER TEMPERATURES
Another pretty good week weather wise, although slightly colder than the previous week, which is why water temperatures have dropped a touch to 15.5 degree’s. However oxygen levels have increased to 37%. Outlook for the week ahead is looking good with plenty of sun and only the odd shower.

THIS WEEKS FISHING!
WOW what a week that was! 20 Temple thirties, 16 of which were reported over the bank holiday weekend alone with some great carp from the Old Lake also reported which included a number of upper twenties with a couple of the fish just missing the magical 30lb mark by ounces.
On a more general front, the bream and tench fishing on the Old Lake has again been good with match and pleasure nets topping 100lb whilst boat anglers have also seen another week of excellent sport with plenty of tench being reported from the jungle in bags to over 100lb which included fish to 9lb.
Regarding the two smaller lakes, Bonds Lake has again seen plenty of carp action with anglers bagging up to 25 fish a session producing weights of well over the ton whilst Milton Lake continues to see prime nets of tench and crucian with catches supported by specimen roach and rudd and surprisingly good numbers of bream.

OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING
A mixed week weather wise saw the bream in particular stop spawning, which means that we will see a bit of a stop start this year, which clearly does have an effect on sport. However, despite this, the general fishing has again been very good with some big catches of tench and bream reported by both bank and boat anglers with individually fish to 9lb caught.
Whilst all areas of the lake are seeing some good sport, it was the deeper water mid week which saw a number of big bags reported with the mid week open match being won with just short of 100lb whilst a number of pleasure anglers exceeding this weight in the days that followed Saying that, the shallower water areas and particularly the jungle also saw some excellent mixed catches reported with tench to over 9lb helping to make up some great catches which has also included the odd carp to 20lb.
With all methods working, maggot, caster, worm and soft pellet are all catching well as are larger baits such as corn, meat, mini boilies and pellet, which are taking the larger fish.
This weeks catches
Joe Mills had a terrific day when he fish peg 26 along the long bank. Fishing a loaded waggler 5/6 rods out, Joe fed 3mm pellet and maggot catching 25 bream to 6lb and 8 tench to 5lb for a good ton up haul.
Another angler to do well was Stuart Simmons, fishing peg 21 along the front bank, Stuart fished a small open feeder at 20 mts catching mainly bream to 5lb for close to 100lb.
Wednesdays open on the Old Lake this week took place on the front bank with 18 anglers targeting the bream and tench. With the fishing a little up and down owing to recent spawning, some good weights were reported and Lee Perry won the day with a well deserved 98lb 2oz bag of skimmers and bream which he caught from peg 24 on pole and pellet. Second was England star Steve Gardener who caught 62lb 6oz of skimmers and bream on similar tactics from peg 2 whilst Geoff Valance was third with 33lb 12oz which he caught from peg 4.

OLD BURY HILL & TEMPLE LAKE – CARP
What an incredible week, 20 Temple thirties, 16 of which were caught over the bank holiday weekend which included a new lake record weighing 38lb 7oz and to top that, a further 2 thirties already reported this weekend. Add to this a couple of big twenties from the Old Lake weighing 29lb 2oz and 28lb 6oz and you can see why I am a happy chappy this week.

Starting with Temple, whilst sport was hectic to say the least over the weekend with 16 thirties in total banked in just 3 days (see full catch report at http://www.buryhillfisheries.co.uk/news/news.phtml?ID=173 ) there was a further 4 thirties caught during the later part of the week which included Temple’s ‘Ghost’ weighing 37lb 8oz bringing the total to 20 thirties.
Whilst the fish appear to be well spread around the lake, the back bank has been seeing most of the action with the middle pegs in particular producing good numbers of fish with two anglers both catching 4 thirties apiece. With the margins clearly being the favorite areas to target, most good quality baits are working although popped up glugged corn definitely remains the firm favorite.
As I always preach, “thinking out of the box” is very important on Temple, so do not be afraid to try something different. Another secret on Temple is to look for signs of fish moving as putting a bait on them can often lead to a quick take.
Whilst Temple has clearly seen some incredible sport this week, the Old Lake has also fished well again with plenty of doubles reported as well as a few twenties topped by two big mirrors weighing 29lb 2oz and 28lb 6oz. Regarding baits on the Old Lake, whilst all good boilies will work, Icelandic Red, Fusion, KG1 and Cell boilies are all worth a try as are the new Cotswold baits and the new Terry Hearn Red Fish boilies and Dynamites Spicy Tuna & Sweet Chilli boilies. The odd fish is also coming out on fake corn and pop ups as anglers start to imitate their success from Temple.
This weeks catches
Arriving Tuesday and having thought that he had missed all the action, Temple regular Craig Hess caught what is generally regarded as one of the most significant fish in Temple, the “Ghost” weighing 37lb 8oz. Fishing peg 13, Craig fished a chopped Active 8 boilie tipped with corn to the point of the island catching his fish during daylight hours.
Another angler to strike lucky in the week was Bury Hill bailiff Ed Mason. Ed fished peg 5 catching a stunning 33lb 8oz mirror mid week on a popped up corn from the same spot that Neil Malcomson had his brace of thirties last weekend.
With a 32lb 4oz common safely in the net, Carlton Irving was the next angler to help Temple move closer to the magical “20 thirties in a week”. Fishing peg 3, Carlton fished popped up corn to the island margins catching during daylight hours.
With just one day to go, it was day session angler Harry Fairbanks who caught the 20th Temple thirty of the week on Friday, a cracking 32lb 4oz common. Fishing popped up corn over hemp, Harry fished his baits to the island margins. For good measure, Maureen Fairbank, Harry’s wife also managed a lovely fish during her day session, this time a 25lb 5oz mirror, which fell to similar tactics.
Turning to the Old Lake, which has also seen some terrific action over last weekend with two near thirties banked along with plenty of twenties. Fishing peg 75 on the Old Lake, Ross Dickens from Morden, Surrey banked a new PB in the shape of a 29lb 2oz mirror. Also catching doubles to 19lb 8oz, Ross caught on Mainline Cell 18mm boilies, which he fished close to the island. Fishing with Ross was Terry Brattle also from Morden, Surrey who also banked a stunning big Old Lake mirror weighing 28lb 6oz. Also fishing 18mm Mainline Cell boilies, Terry fished peg 74 catching close to the island.
David Oake also had a great session banking 4 fish including a 24lb 6oz mirror with David’s other fish being mid to upper doubles. David fished peg 32 catching on KG1 baits over hemp, which he fished towards the island. Another angler to do well was local angler Dave Maskell who caught 12 carp to 18lb from peg 3. Fishing to the open water, Dave caught on Cell and Icelandic Red boilies over pellet. Another angler to catch a few was Victor Korotunas. Fishing peg 36 Victor caught mirrors to 18lb on Tutti Frutti baits.
BONDS LAKE
Despite a small drop in water temperatures, Bonds fished well again this week with plenty of anglers reporting nets close to 100lb. Again no particular bank seems to fish any better than the other with fish coming from pretty well all pegs. Whilst all methods are working well, pole and float and seem to be the most popular with maggot and soft pellet catching well as are mini boilies, corn and soft paste baits.
This weeks catches
Terry Marshall had a great day catching 24 carp to 9lb for a good 100lb haul. Fishing peg 15, Terry fished a long pole catching on large soft pellet whilst feeding small 3mm pellet and maggot.

MILTON LAKE
Milton also saw another good week with good numbers of tench and crucian showing all around the lake along with good numbers of roach, rudd and perch. With all methods working, the best of the action has been coming to pole and float tactics with maggot, caster and worm all catching, with pellet, paste and corn taking the better fish.
This weeks catches
Whilst we have removed a good number of the larger carp from Milton, the week has seen two near twenties caught which included a 21lb 2oz linear, which was caught by 10-year-old Ben Wilson. Fishing a private tuition session with Bury Hill instructor Rob Hawkins, Ben was targeting the tench and crucian when his float fished bread punch was taken by the biggie. Following a 20 minute fight which tested Ben’s 4lb line and size 16 hook to the limit, Ben finally landed the fish of a lifetime with the help of Rob.
Another angler to get a surprise on Milton was season ticket holder Dave Ennis, when his float fished sweet corn was snaffled by a 19lb mirror carp. Fishing peg 3, Dave caught his surprise fish on just 4.4lb bottom and played the fish for a good 40 minutes.
Known more for its big shoals of tench and crucian, Simon Jenkins has a great day on Milton mid week catching a couple of dozen tench and crucian from peg 1 on float fished soft paste which he fished to the margins.
