WATER TEMPERATURES
Spring seems to have finally arrived and with the prospect of a sunny week with temperatures set to hit 15 degree’s, expect some great fishing.
Water temperatures today had crept up further to 9.2 degree’s whilst oxygen levels remained constant at around 30%.
THIS WEEKS FISHING!
WHAT A GREAT WEEK! The dry, sunny weather made for some great fishing this week with all lakes producing excellent catches which included carp to 35lb from Temple as well as 20lb fish from the Old Lake along with 200lb bags of tench and bream. Although now finished, the last week of the predator season also saw some good fish caught with zander to 12lb and pike 18lb reported.
The fishing on the two smaller lakes was also very good with plenty of small carp to 8lb showing on Bonds with a number of anglers reporting bags to 70lb. Milton Lake also fished pretty well with more big perch reported and some cracking roach to 2lb, however we also saw the first tench and crucian bags caught with a few anglers reporting upwards of a dozen fish.
OLD BURY HILL LAKE – PREDATOR FISHING
(Predator season now closed)
The last week of the predator season saw some great fish banked with zander to 12lb and pike to 18lb topping the catches. With water temperatures increasing on a daily basis, the fish and in particular the zander showed in good numbers from all areas with both bank and boat anglers enjoying some great end of season sport.
Our predator fishing is now closed re-opening October 1st.
This weeks catches
Phil Taylor grabbed a last minute session this week to target Bury Hill’s big zeds catching a cracking 12lb fish. Phil fished peg 42 catching on ledgered sprat.
Whilst a lot of smaller pike were showing this week, Steve Harman had a great days sport mid week catching 5 fish between 4lb and 12lb and a new PB in the shape of a very fit 18lb’er. Steve fished from a boat catching most of his fish from the jungle area.
OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING
A remarkable weeks fishing on the Old Lake with yet more big bags of tench and bream caught with both bank and boat anglers reporting bags to 100lb. Whilst the best of the fishing in recent weeks has been from the early pegs along both the front and long banks which continue to fish well, this week saw a lot more fish caught from the shallow water pegs with the early pegs along the front bank and top end of the long bank both providing some great catches. With tench and bream showing in equal numbers, anglers have been catching tench to 6lb and bream to 5lb.
Whilst tactics remain much the same as previous weeks with both feeder and float tactics catching well, pole tactics have again been the winning method with maggot over cupped pellet and ground bait caster working particularly well, although caster and worm as well as larger baits such as corn, hair rigged punched meat and banded pellet are also working.
This weeks catches
Jim Mc Dowell from west Wickham had a good day on Friday catching 7 tench and 18 bream both to around 5lb for a good 100lb bag (see picture below). Fishing HOT PEG 29, Jim fished a 14mt pole with double red maggot on the hook cupping in small amounts of ground bait.
Another angler to do well was Steven Tilly, Steven fished peg 4 at the end of the front bank catching 6 tench and a dozen bream to 6lb. Steven fished a waggler 4 rods out catching on red maggot over pellet.

OLD BURY HILL & TEMPLE LAKE - CARP
A good week for the carpers with half a dozen fish caught from Temple over the weekend which included a 35lb mirror and some decent multi bags from the Old Lake which included a couple of twenties.
Whilst all areas on Temple are showing signs of fish, it seems to be the middle-sections that are producing the best chance with fish coming from both the margins and deeper water areas. Whilst small baits continue to produce such as small broken sections of cream pop ups as well as the tried and tested glugged plastic corn, regular boilies such as Pro Active Pineapple and Fishmeal as well as various pop ups are both starting to catch fish.
On the Old Lake it was the shallow water pegs which again saw most of the action with the early pegs along the front bank and middle to top end pegs along the long bank both fishing well. Whilst pretty much any good quality bait will catch, Icelandic Red, Fusion, KG1 and Cell boilies are all worth a go as are some of the new Cotswold baits.

Temple came to life this weekend with 6 fish reported over the two days. His first visit to Temple, Kevin Stiff bagged a 35lb mirror although I am still waiting full details and a picture. Regular Clayton Baker was back to his old tricks catching 3 mirrors during his 48 hour session weighing 27lb 10oz, 25lb 2oz and 20lb 2oz. Clayton fish peg 9 catching on Pro Active Pineapple boilies which he fished over a small amount of chopped bait.
Robert Savage also managed a decent mirror, this time a 25lb 6oz fish, which he caught from peg 3 on a Tiger Nut pop up. Another angler to catch was Andrew Kelly (see picture below) who caught a 25lb 4oz common also from peg 3 earlier in the week. Sean Howard also surprised himself and me by catching a 14lb mirror; this must be one of the smallest fish in the lake and is almost certainly the result of spawning 4 years ago.
On the Old Lake Colin Reed had a good midweek session catching 7 carp to 20lb 11oz. Colin fished peg 34 catching from just short of the island on good old Icelandic Red boilies. Another angler on the Old Lake to score was Philip Marshall, Philip fished peg 11 on the front bank catching 11 carp which included a 20lb common, Philip caught on Richworth KG1 baits.
Another couple of anglers to catch on the Old Lake were Chris Rainbow and Lee Stockwell. Fishing pegs 37 and 38, the pair fished Cotswold UFO baits to the island area catching 8 or so carp to just under 20lb.
Please Note!
Temple Lake can only be fished by Specimen Carp Members who are also able to night fish the Old Lake. With membership numbers strictly limited to anglers with some experience of catching bigger fish, membership includes Old Bury Hill Lake and Temple Lake, our new specimen carp lake. Following recent stockings, Temple currently holds just under a 100 fish to upper thirties, which now includes 35 known thirties, the average size is close to 29lb. To date there has been a waiting list to join, however there is a small number of places available for 2009 which will be available on a first come first served basis, anyone interested should contact David or Jane on 01306 877540, or download an application form from our website.

BONDS LAKE
Bonds fished well again this week with anglers reporting bags of carp to 50lb plus. With both float and feeder tactics working and smaller baits such as maggot catching well, the best of the sport has been coming from the road bank and back banks. With temperatures on the up, most baits such as corn, pellet and mini boilies are now working well.
MILTON LAKE
Another good week on Milton with a number of anglers reporting decent bags of perch, roach and tench with even the odd crucian showing as water temperatures continue to rise. With most methods working the best of the action has been coming to pole and feeder tactics with maggot, caster and worm all catching, although pellet, paste and corn are also starting to take fish.
